If you are set on RTW/MTO it might just be easier to get a 5D shoe and use insoles.

RTW = Ready to Wear, e.g. you buy it off the rack
MTO = Made to Order, you order it to a specific [general] size, width, color, last, combination of features

yes that is what I am looking for. I don't want to have a completely bespoke shoe, or rather I don't think I can afford right atm.

The last time I saw a foot with that sort of width-to-length ratio, it was wearing a shoe that looked like this:

josiahsiung, welcome to Styleforum.
Just a thought, but why not stand on a piece of paper and, with a pen, draw the outline of your (socked) feet, then fax it to Allen Edmonds and see if they can accomodate you?

lookup Jimmy Au's in LA and a shop here in Toronto called Browns. They carry small shoes and probably have your size.

I don't know. It was a suggestion. As a store may not have your size in stock or available, it can't hurt to contact Allen Edmonds as I have stated.
By seeing your actual foot size, they may be able to suggest a certain last number and size that would work for you. That is what I would do, were it my situation.

alright, i'll give them a call later today. in any case i have a 5D already ordered and being shipped right now so we will see how that fits. maybe the nordstrom guy was right and my feet are 5D and not 4.5EEE (like the AE representative claims).

The Allen Edmonds 8 last is pretty damn wide...you might be able to get a 5 in it and not have to worry about the width as much.

Also, you might be best served wearing tissue boxes as shoes, as it sounds like they are about your size.
