Shaving Travel Kit Suggestions

I need a travel shaving kit and have been looking at the Art of Shaving kit for a while. However, today I found this one from Kent for less than half the price, was wondering if anyone owned or had any experience with the Kent. I know their brushes are highly regarded:



Any advice or comments would be appreciated.

Go to your pharmacy and ask for the largest empty prescription bottle they have. Drop your brush into it. (I use one in from a prescription my vet wrote for my dog.) Get a gotoob http://www.amazon.com/Gotoob-Medium-Squeezable-Silicone-Travel/dp/B0039VM8F2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312678491&sr=8-1 and put your shave cream in it. Much cheaper than a travel kit.

I wouldn't buy any of those kits.

It's cheaper to make your own and you will have more options.

I recommend the following:
1. Dopp kit (any kind will do)
2. Safety razor (Get a high quality Merkur)
3. Razor blades (Double-edged razors, a pack will last you nearly two years)
4. Shaving soap (I like Taylor of Old Bond best)
5. Brush (Something afforable or you can opt for something expensive)
6. Shaving mug (optional, I don't use one for travel)

Some of these things have a higher upfront cost than your normal disposable razor; however, you get higher quality and less cost long-term (replacement razors are cheap and ~$20 will buy about 2 years worth; shaving soap lasts months).

^ Excellent advice. I prefer solid shaving soap in a wooden bowl. I think that it's easier to use and if you drop the bowl it is less likely to shatter as will the tub that the shaving cream comes in if it is dropped.

I know it's a fad right now to shave straight razor or blade but electric is where it's at, much more convenient. If you have to wet shave, nothing beats the third generation Gillette Fusion. Also if people tell you going old school=save money, punch them in the face.

The blades themselves are significantly cheaper, $0.15 for double edge versus $2.00+ for the cartridge variety. 'Splain how that doesn't save money...

I pay $0.10 per blade and I agree that it is a helluva bargain.

I actually think it's worth spending a decent amount of money on a silvertip brush. Roney makes a decent one at a good price. On the razor, you can save money if you hunt for something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Gillette-F-2-Fat-Boy-Safety-Razor-/320737850569?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aad7734c9 The adjustable FatBoy is a really good razor. Shaving soap is good if you live where the water is not too hard. Otherwise, cream is a better choice. Proraso is as good as the more expensive brands.

Agree on the soap vs cream, and either way you can typically get a better lather (and quicker) with cream.

The one I recommended is actually a cream, but you use it like shaving soap so I forgot. It's a bit more expensive than Proraso and won't last nearly as long; however, it has more options for scents.
