What restaurant/bar is the closest to your residence (and how often do you eat/drink there)?

Living in Center City Philadelphia means I'm just blocks away from lots of places, but I've never had the experience of living right above or next to a favorite hangout. I'm curious if others have. Or maybe familiarity breeds contempt in this case and we generally tend to avoid establishments that are too close.

I think the eatery that's the closest to me is the recently opened Talula's Garden, in the former Washington Square restaurant space. Ate there once and found it overpriced and just so-so. But I've meant to go back just for drinks in the garden because it's so pleasant (or will be once it's not hot as balls).

When I was a kid, and in the first place I stayed at for several years, there were a number of pubs and hole-in-the-wall eateries within a two block walk of my apartment. My favorite was always was, and still is, The Dominion House. http://www.thedominionhouse.ca/about.php

When I was a kid, what I liked about it most was, the true pub style atmosphere. University frosh through people doddering on canes all mixed and chatted during the day and weeknights and there were plenty of hot Uni babes on Friday and Saturday nights out drinking with friends. Nothing like a two block stumble back to my place with one of them. Good times.

You picked up your love of boozin' early! Does that place serve up a lot of Caesars (or is that more of an Alberta thing)? A Canadian buddy made some at a brunch party once. I couldn't handle it.

Funny you should mention those. When I was poor they were my favourite drink. The "Ditch" served them with a couple of stalks of celery and several speared olives. I made more than one dinner out of celery and olives. laugh.gif

They still have one of my favorites on the menu : Scotch eggs. Hard boiled eggs, wrapped in sausage, rolled in bread crumbs and deep fried. Yum.

I live across the street from The Brooklyn Inn on Hoyt/Bergen Street in Bklyn.
GREAT local bar(one of the oldest in Brooklyn)that really gets going on Thurs-Sat. Pool table in the back/jukebox. No food served but a block away from "restaurant" row, Smith Street. Cash only. I sometimes stop by for a Guinness and a shot after work(last time appr 3 weeks ago.) Bartenders know me. I actually went there much more yrs ago but not as much as more.

Man, that's some dedication to drinking. I hope that one day, I too can honestly use the phrase "when I was poor" in the past tense.

I've actually never had a Scotch egg. Can't imagine it being anything but a guilty pleasure.

I love your neighborhood. Am jealous. Can't remember if I've ever been to Brooklyn Inn or not--I think I'm confusing it with Brooklyn Social.

The first time I went apartment hunting in New York, I crashed with some lawyer friends in Cobble Hill (on Henry). They had a lovely, lovely apartment. And then I looked at places in my price range, and it was all downhill from there.

In Georgetown, I'm a block over from this little place called Booeymonger. Sort of place the Gtown students go to for sandwiches and pitchers of beer. Sometimes 2 of those $7 pitchers with a friend make for a good start to an evening smile.gif They also have a breakfast bagel I get from time to time

Another street over is M St. and it takes about 2-3min from my doorstep to get to Dean & Deluca. I go there for coffee or some pastry most mornings when in D.C. but basically any place in Gtown is within a few minutes from home and It seems like I go to one of those places everyday

I go to both Peacock Cafe and Cafe Milano, which are both super close (1-2min walking) to my house about once per week.

In both L.A. and in my hometown 'close' doesn't matter since going anywhere means a drive. I tend to cook more

Really good Chinese place called Yat Ka Mein. I eat there like 2 times a week for lunch. This is in Cincinnati and it's a block from my apartment.

The only place I've been eating/drinking at in Georgetown is Mie N Yu. I would never have chosen a place with such a stupid name but I was meeting friends there. Since I have no real memories of it, it must've been pretty unremarkable for good or for bad.

It is very easy to forget that place but I do meet friends there on occasion.

Mie N Yue makes some nice cocktails, but the food is rather forgettable, as it is at most Georgetown restaurants. You're paying for the location, not the cuisine.

Still unsure how I spent $150 for 2 people...and I hate the bathroom there

Most bars I frequent are at least a mile from me. But I've been to Comet a few blocks away for beer and pizza. And last weekend I finally tried out Jake's which is across the street from Comet. Prettty awesome place. Was also happy to learn my neighbor is a lush.

I live in Adams Morgan, so I have a bar/restaurant next door, several across the street, and tons more within a very short walk. I don't go to neighborhood bars to hang out much ever since getting a flat-screen TV several years ago, except for post-bocce league games at Grand Central. If the Redskins get better, I might start going to Bedrock Billiards again. I definitely need to check out Jack Rose at the bottom of 18th Street. With regard to food, I do takeout almost exclusively when I eat in neighborhood restaurants.
