One of my best friends and ultimately a mentor -- now deceased -- I met the year I turned 39 (a while back now). We were on a ship and had been assigned adjacent tables. After the first night at dinner we ran into each at one of the stairways. He mentioned he lived in Houston ... I asked if he knew so-and-so ... he did ... and over the course of the crossing we began what was to be a long friendship.
During our initial conversation he had a question: "Are you a doctor or an architect?" I smiled and looked puzzled. He pointed to the bow tie.
