Plantation shutters

Does anybody here have any experience with having plantation shutters installed or installing them yourself? What sort of pricing can you expect for installing plantation shutters? If you do it yourself, how much work is involved?

Thanks H_S.

Usable or just for looks? They have been on my house since I was a little kid. I remember putting them on and not being a big deal. But my parents also renovated/refinished the whole house, so they had some ability to do house work.

Definitely usable. It sounds as though it's an undertaking of gigantic financial proportions. I've talked to some friends who have looked into it as well and it looks like it's about 5x more expensive than anybody expects it would be. foo.gif

I've lived in two homes with them and highly recommend them if you plan to stay long-term. They are especially efficient to regulate daylight and privacy.

My current home was outfitted with wooden blinds that are about 3". They are almost as effective and a fraction of the price of plantation shutters. They are actually better for large picture windows where you want an unobstructed view at times. The blinds retract much more efficiently than shutters.
