Starting it 1/2 way thru the season, oh well.

Hamilton's drive today in Germany was Senna-esqe. One of the best drives I have seen in a long time.

Don't know about Senna-esqe (he was before my time), but it was a great win. Very fun race to watch. I know it's nearly hopeless but I really don't care to see Vettel walk away with the title. If he does win the championship he'll be the first driver since Alonso to win back to back titles. 5 seasons. I wonder the last time that has happened.

Agreed. Great drive by Hamilton.

Vettel is having an amazing year... He's absolutely dominant in qualifying, but in race trim he's not blitzing the fastest lap times.

The last 4 seasons of F1 have probably been the best ever, I've been watching since the 80's

The large gap between Hamilton - Button, Alonso - Massa, Rosberg - Shumacher is interesting.

In the past couple of races Vettel seems to be struggling a little when he's under sustained pressure, though it could be because he's spent so much time out in front he forgotten what its like in a competitive race.

^ My take is that he is struggling with the more durable tires. He's masterful on the compound which has 10-15 laps in it. Pirelli has changed that to be closer to 30 laps for the soft compound.

Vettel is a great driver, but I've always thought he was pretty clumsy when actually racing wheel to wheel.

Funny, because Schumacher is the same way. When he spent season after season in the lead nobody noticed but he cracked numerous times under pressure. This season he looks like he is driving bumper cars, he taps someone in every race.

The speed in which they are evolving the tyres throughout the season, and how they've been changing rules, almost on the fly (blown diffusers anyone?) has made it imo a more interesting season, in that the teams are never really allowed to settle, but it must be a nightmare for the engineers...

I hope Schumacher gets a podium this season for old time's sake. But I guess the closest might have been Montreal.

I don't remember there being teams struggling to meet the 107% rule though. And the amount of lapping the race leaders do on teams like Virgin, Lotus or Hispania can get embarassing at times. Sometimes it feels like just finishing the race is a feat for them.

I used to really hate Scumi, but now I have a soft spot for him. I'm glad hes still in F1. Man do I miss Senna. For those youngsters you missed the greatest driver in history. See the documentary Senna to get an idea of just how amazing he was.

In 84 he raced the most incredible race probably ever. Imagine today some unkown driver in a Lotus or Hispania destroying the entire field and honing in on the fastest driver in F1 only to have the race stopped for excessive wetness a after 25% of the race. And Senna closing in on Prost and was only seconds behind him. The guy was just incredible. The only driver today that even comes remotely close is Hamilton.

Awesome Hungarian GP. I really enjoy watching Jenson Button win races (though it was a bit boring when he was doing so at Brawn). Wish Vettel wasn't on the podium though cause I want to see a serious dent in his championship lead.

Anyone here been to an F1 race before? I've been to Montreal (2007) and Abu Dhabi (2009). Will likely head to Austin next year (if it's in the Fall) and maybe Montreal again.

I haven't. I really only caught on to F1 after working in Europe. I guess I should have taken advantage of my time there. Montreal is closest to me but it's a bit of a mad house come F1 week.

Austin? Oh right, they're still trying to pad new races on to the already lengthy schedule.

I don't know about Hamilton. My respect for him dipped when he and Alonso kept getting into tussles when they were on the same team.

Schumacher was a great driver. People only remember the later dominant years but forget the time he was with Jordan, Renault, and early Ferrari.

None of those teams was winning before him and none of them continued to dominate after. he often won with inferior cars and carried teams
