A few beginner suit questions

Hello folks...need to buy a suit for my wedding and I am in dire need of help. I am very tall and slim (6'5" 170 lbs), 29 yrs old. I am trying to find an excellent looking slim fitting suit. I have a suit I got about 10 years ago at Men's Wearhouse, but it is WAY to boxy and big for me, and I look like I am swimming in it.

I went to Nordstrom, Barney's and Neiman Marcus today, and I found 2 suits that fit me very well. Unfortunately, they were $1600, which is way out of my price range. All of the cheaper suits I tried on were fairly boxy and not the slim look I was going for. My price range is around $800 max.

I understand that the body of the suit can be narrowed with tailoring, but I found a lot of the sleeves were also too wide for my skinny arms. The $1600 Armani had narrow sleeves and a narrow waist, and just looked spectacular.

I'd like to find some very slim fitting suits that match my budget. Can you give me an leads on designers, stores, or other places to look? I think I heard that single breasted with double side vents is typcally the most slim. I'm fine going MTM if need be, but my understanding is that if you do that, you still have to start from a basic cut that is what you want. I have so many problems fitting clothes that I don't think I'd want to order online.

Also: this is my first real suit. Suggestions on color? I'm thinking charcoal for maximum versatility, but black would be an option too.

Thank you so much...

Don't be lazy^ - "my price range is $800 max"

Honestly, find a suit you like that costs about $400-500 (you can get a slim Boss suit at Macy's where they are on sale half the year), find a *really good* tailor, and pay them $150 to make it look great on you. A really good tailor can adjust the entire thing, even sleeves, as long as the suit is generally your size.

^No. This is bad advice. It costs nothing, and it's worth the price.

Go to Brooks. You can get a good suit in your range from the 1818 line. Good luck.

Re: Color - black is the worst choice. Charcoal or navy are your best options.

Under 8 for a solid suit, J Crew and Brooks are your best choices. And definitely stay away from black, it isn't as versatile as navy or gray. They'll also offer lightweight wools which you can wear for at least 3 seasons (depending on your location). Refer to the WIWT portion of SF for how the suit should properly fit so after purchasing the suit, the tailor can have references or you can flat out tell him.

Finally, get rid of that MW suit for good. There's absolutely no excuse for you to still hang on to that.

well he did say it was for a wedding, so black wouldn't be totally out of the question (Actually might be preferable if this wedding is of the traditional kind)
That said, there are tons of suits of B&S for less than 800 including some ISAIAs and others of comparable quality NEW. Find your size, spend maybe a hundred or less on tailoring, and you're good to go

He said wedding, not a funeral. And of course he may want to use this suit again for things like interviews and other occasions. A black suit is not really good for that.
