What kind of cat is the one with the hairy tips on its ears?

Caracals, I am pretty sure. Although they look like lynxes and are often given names like "African lynx" or "Indian lynx," I just learned, somewhat to my surprise, that they are not that closely related to the true lynxes.

As I recall, the ancient Egyptians used trained caracals for hunting purposes.

Old time lion/tiger tamers often used catnip as a means of controlling their animals. It has a much more potent effect on the big cats than it does our domestic cats.

GQgeek, if it's any comfort to you, tiger hunting is not legal anywhere these days.

They look just like house cats. I wonder if they do other cat-like things. I want to see one chase a laser pointer.
