Caracals, I am pretty sure. Although they look like lynxes and are often given names like "African lynx" or "Indian lynx," I just learned, somewhat to my surprise, that they are not that closely related to the true lynxes.
As I recall, the ancient Egyptians used trained caracals for hunting purposes.
Old time lion/tiger tamers often used catnip as a means of controlling their animals. It has a much more potent effect on the big cats than it does our domestic cats.
GQgeek, if it's any comfort to you, tiger hunting is not legal anywhere these days.
