For this to happen on such a high end shoe as St. C. is unacceptable.

Hmm. Not acceptable at all... I find this concerning for St Cs

Indeed this is very similar to Hatch Grain finish peeling off. I had the similar problems with AS Chukka.

G&G Hatch Grain (the same Horween leather) looks much better though.

How does it look once it's been worn in?

If anything, the St Crispin's hatch grain looks like it ages similarly to the Russian reindeer leather.

Yes my St. C's Russian Leather looks like crap after their first wear and complete garbage after their third wear. According to Skoaktiebolaget (my retailer) all I had to do was throw some burgundy polish on them and all would be great sarcasm.gif.... Not really, they still look like garbage. I have relegated them to the back of my closet at this point, doubt I will wear them again.

@RogerP I now have 4 wears on mine and I have to say they still look pretty damn good. I wore them to the office 3 times and once on a Saturday out and about for the whole day. A good mix of driving(manual gearbox) and walking. They really don't look any worse for wear. I haven't touched them besides giving them a quick wipe with my (dry) polishing mitt to knock any loose dirt/dust off after wearing.  I will take some pics before I wear them again

I don't think this is a fair description of how we acted in the matter. I believe our response was more detailed. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.
