My daughters surprised me last evening with my Christmas present; meet Gaborik, a tomcat of indeterminate age (somewhere between 4-6 years).

Nice to have someone to talk to when returning from the saltmines.

Named after the hockey player? He looks well-fed, probably not found abandonned? Does he talk back? A friend of mine had a cat that would "reply" every time he was addressed.

"Rube" = hick, rural, unsophisticated, gullible, not worldly wise, etc.

How in the world can someone describe me so perfectly without ever meeting me? Manton, your talents continue to amaze me.

Gaborik was not an abandoned feline; he was on his way out of a temporary home due to some newfound allergy issues. Yes, he is well-fed; I don't have a scale (at least not one that registers over an ounce

) but he's a biggun. He is also amazingly responsive; I'll call to him and he actually walks over and jumps up to my lap, or onto the sofa next to me. He's one of those "kneaders" (you cat people know what I mean) which was a rather painful relevation last night. OUCH! And very vocal; he and I have had quite lengthy conversations the last two mornings. (I think he's simply training me.) A question for all the cat people: it's been years since I've had feline company, and he has hardly eaten since he arrived at my apartment. Is this an adjustment deal? The food I've put out for him is the same as he's been eating at his most recent domicile. Also, he shed A LOT. I know I have to brush him a few times a week, but could he be shedding more than usual because he's been "disrupted"?

try some wet food.
when all else fails, i've never seen a cat deny the allure.
not the canned stuff, but the cutlets in packets.
whiskas and iams make the good 'uns.

sounds like he's a little stressed out.
moves do that.

he'll be fine.

Thanks ddml. I'm sure Gaborik will appreciate your advice.
