New changes to B&S forum - Page 5

With all respect, I'm not sure the one item system allows for more manageable browsing.

There's just too much stuff to sort through, what was once a page worth of items on the old system is now spread over a half dozen.

In a sense too, because there's so many more listings you're made the bump much more valuable.

But at the same tie, if things pickup and people post as much as they did on the old B&S you could buy a bump, and be 5 pages back within an hour.

I suppose the ability to sort for size may help alleviate some of this.

I would appreciate it if it was possible to list more than one item of the same category in one listing. For example, I have thirty high end ties from the same brand that I would be happy to sell for the same price. In the past, a buyer could look at one listing and quickly shoot me a PM asking for "ties 5,7, 9 and 12" or "would you accept $xxx for ties 5, 7, 9 & 12." Now, even if the buyer can see in one listing that I have another 29 ties for sale, what are the odds that he will look at all the other listings to make a multi-item purchase?

I also think that the classified forum in general would look much cleaner if sellers did not need to "spam" with a separate listing for each item. If someone can list different suits or ties in one eBay listing, it should be a baseline for what can be listed here.

Having said all that, I think the system has potential and I will be happy to pay for more classifieds when I feel that I can get a product that will help me more than my other current sales channels.

I like the new format A LOT, it's nice to be able to browse by style/size rather than wade through a ton of items to see what I want.

As a frequent buyer and infrequent seller, I'd like to see multiple items sold in the same thread again.

It seems that the one-item restriction has reduced the supply of goods being sold.

I like the idea of charging .05 for bumps in b&s if it encourages fairness.

you should be able to list multiple items in one listing.

these separate listings per item is AWFUL.

for instance. I liked seeing ed morel's panta tie threads - twenty different ties in one thread, all same price. now he'd have to make 20 different threads. Silly and unmanageable.

I've honestly stopped browsing the B&S.

Which is good, since I spent way too much time and money on there.

Now if I want stuff I can go to eBay. Same layout/idea.

Too bad.

My idea for perfecting the new B&S system (which I think is a great foundation):

-Keep the categories (accessories, jackets, suits, slacks, etc...)

-Limit each user to two threads per category --- this will allow for "mega threads" and eliminate the problem of having too many listings/clutter

-Add the ability to "hover" over thread titles to display a couple thumbnail images of the items contained the thread. (Like the ones we have now, which was a big part of the re-design) This way, people would be able to identify the "bazaar-like" threads

-Bumps still limited based on the premium member fees

Just my two cents

the good thing about B&S was the large megasales in one thread. it's not the same split over several threads (and anything new gets bumped off the first page in an hour or so).

otherwise, it's like ebay, but worse (for the buyers and probably the sellers).

Exactly. I don't see this new B&S at all accommodating for casual sellers that bring in large hauls of Cucinelli, Mabitex, etc. It also cripples large regular sellers like Angelicboris, pocketcircle, Spoo, & edmorel. The majority of the buyers/sellers who like the new system probably prefer eBay anyway, so why cater to them instead of the old guard? You're just giving them a system with no fees - and in the process, taking away the user control of content and community feel of the B&S board.

We need multiple item, threaded listings. I for one would donate to make this happen.

How fast can we revert to a system where we can post multiple items in one posting? It would just require a simple change in the rules, correct?

It's half correct. It would require a change of the rules, and a change in the membership structure, so that we don't get people posting 200 duplicate threads (don't laugh when I say that some smaret guy will try this) and bumping them every 24 hours or whatever. In other words, the membership structure needs to mesh with the new rules, or there will be chaos. The membership structure can be changed, but it requires us to get our developers to do it. Also, j and I would have to make a judgement that this would be a worthwhile experiment. This new rule structure is my idea, and in addition to making sure that the other rules are consistent with it, I'd have to okay this with my partner.

I'd be curious to see how much donation it would take to make something like this happen... tbh I've gotten the impression that a lot of the change was spurred by the amount of work it took j and fok to police rules and spam. Figure out an answer to that (pay per post/bump maybe - don't need a token system, just pay straight up in cash from your paypal) and from there I think the issue is really "how much money is it going to take under Huddler?"

Respect to all the hard work that's gone into this, but it's wound up as kind of an in-the-middle mess that pleases essentially nobody except those who pretty much just want to do Ebay-style searches.

I'd donate to make this better and potentially remove the fee structure.

Without a "functional" B&S, SF lost that sense of community. Fewer members have posted and there is a definite sense that things are going downhill.

While I respect the work done by moderators, I have to agree with what you've said. The new B&S seems to be much more effective than all the threads Man of Lint started.
