New changes to B&S forum - Page 36  

Fok - I'm not a big seller but have sold my share here and bought and traded more. I think that the improvements that are already in process are fine. Were I a mod, I'd make it easier on myself. The buyers and sellers will find each other.

I've only bought and sold a handful of items, but I'd hate for people's bitching to close down such a good thing. People may dislike the new system, but I'd gladly take browsing through classifieds to find a deal over having to drive an hour-and-a-half to a store and dig through a bunch of items in hopes of finding a deal close to what is available on B&S.

Guys, I have been rather quiet in the past few days while the changes were rolled out, but I think I want to chime in here.

First and foremost, Lets all remember that this is a FREE service that this forum provides. Its a niche market that sellers can source their items to, and profit largely off of it. Lets pretend for just a second that B&S in any incarnation did not exist. What are your other options? eBay? Craigslist, maybe? Sure we all sell on eBay - but you get assfucked for fees. THERE ARE NO FEES AT ALL HERE. You cater to a largely wealthy client with disposable income for free. FOR FREE.

Second - Regarding the change - sure, most of us loved the way the old forum worked. It was easy, simple, and familiar. This is new, slightly more complicated, and unusual to adapt to. But you know what? You will get used to it. Its not the same, it won't be the same ever again. We need to get used to this new format and take it by the balls. I just listed 5 new threads tonight, and yeah - even though I helped redesign the system, it was a bit tricky for me to figure out. But you know what? The next time I will get it better and learn from my mistakes. I paid my $7 happily for my "power seller" status and bump abilities, and I have ZERO problems with that. Seven bucks to potentially sell the $5,000 worth of stuff here? Any day of the week.

Third - I hear you guys about all these suggestions, and ideas to make the system better and there is some really creative stuff there. BUT understand that none of us are on the mod side of the fence seeing how much bullshit there is behind the scenes to deal with this. I consider myself lucky that the people in charge of this forum actually listened to their members and did what they could based solely on their feedback to make it better. But some changes are just not possible. Fok has explained in depth, in many different threads about what could work and what could not. Trust me when I say that Fok does not like to repeat himself, and if he is at the point of saying that he might shut the B&S - thats pretty bad. Everyone just chill. I miss the old one too - but I am absolutely taking this new one by the balls and will make it work for both me and my buyers. (You guys can start buying my shit anytime now, just saying ) As someone up thread said, buyers and sellers will find each other. The new forum will attract many new people, and largely they will be consumers. So if sellers shrink and buyers increase...what does that tell you?

Im not venting, Im not pissed, Im just saying - I can feel a palpable change in the tone of this thread and I think its best if we all stop remembering yesterday and start focusing on how we can take today and make it a better tomorrow.

^ This. I was surprised that the owners have been so responsive to suggestion. Count me as in the group who think this new system is a good thing and will be workable. It may not be perfect for anyone, but it strikes a balance.

If more guys do mega threads I think the new system will be great. I like a lot of the new touches myself. But I admit I am still getting used to it.

People are only complaining, because they remember how great the old system was.

Sales are down for everybody. I went from selling two or three items a day to selling two or three items a week.
I also haven't bought one thing since the system changed. In the old system I was buying something seemingly every other day.

The B&S will never be as active as it once was, but I am certain things will improve.

I have... but it was from RJman's old style thread.

On the other hand, chatting is starting to occur in the sales threads. Megathreads are good for that; and I really missed when we had to stop chatting just so as to avoid free bumps.

So I think that slowly SF is starting to get a feel for its new B&S system.

Agreed we need more multithreads. Lets just limit them to things not in my size, while I focus on saving for a bit, eh?

Since this seems to have become the defacto B&S support thread I was wondering if somebody could help me with how to post a new "megathread":

-Are we no longer allowed to link pics from image hosting sites? I saw no IMG button in the thread when I tried to post and only saw the "add pictures" button at the bottom.

-If we can only add pictures via uploading them from our computers, how can I add pictures where I want them, spread throughout the post? It only adds them in a row at the bottom.

I just went through this. Use photo bucket/imageshack for the body of the post, like you used to, but use one pic using the forum software so that an image shows up next to your thread. It's basically the same way it used to be, just need to make sure that you are doing single category megathreads, like all ties for example. Price needs to be the price of at least one item in the three.

As a more frequent buyer than seller, I enjoy being able to filter with categories. Seeing the thumbnail in the results is also great for quickly scanning for something interesting. 

 

One suggestion for sellers, put your large images in the body text like before. Clicking through all the small thumbnails (and waiting for them to load) is a pain for many buyers/viewers.

I did this also. However, about half the time I upload and hit submit, my pic doesn't go and I navigate away from the page.
