Excuse my ignorance, but how do you make a new thread in the new B&S, and how do you get that little picture for your signature? I haven't used B&S since the changeover.

To create a new thread, go into the subfora that you want to list in, and somewhere by the upper left corner is "Create a new classified". Once your classified is up and you want to add it to your signature, go to "My Profile", then "edit signature text" and 3 dropdowns will appear. Select any 3 of your classifieds to add and there you go. Just remember to remove them (and close your listing) once the item sells.

Excuse me if this question has already been answered, but when will the changes outlined by spoopoker a few pages back (multiple similar items per listing, pay per bumps etc etc) take effect?

Hopefully very soon.

Will the new rules apply retroactively to the old threads?

Basically, I have a couple things I want to sell, I don't want to list them this weekend, only to have them fall through the cracks when the new system is rolled out.

So is there an ETA for the launch of the revised B&S system yet?

No, the rules will not apply retroactively.

The reason is that we do not want to disadvantage the people who are using the system now, and paying for the premium options, but at the same time, we do not want people being tempted to game the system. The crucial point is that listings do not expire until you close them. This would mean that someone could buy on the of the 200 listing options now, and if the rules applied retroactively, they would either be able to have 200 listings indefinitely. Logistically, the only thing that makes this unambigious is to have the new rules and the new premium seller groups be implemented simultaneously, and the new rules would apply to all listings created after the new rules are implemented.

Sorry for the inconvenience, gentlemen, but the system should be up and running by the end of the week. I will announce when the changes take place.

Cheers,

Fok.

We will be decreasing the size of the preview pictures and the amount of preview text, but we are going to be keeping the pictures and previews.

The reviews are here to stay. It would be great if you guys were to make it as useful as possible, especially for new users. It would really decrease the amount of clutter in the forums, which would help decrease the noise in the main forums. We would love to have you manually add and review products from ShoptheFinest, Ehaberdasher, VirtualClothesHorse, and others.

Actually, we will hold a contest. First to 30 reviews gets a $150 gift certificate, second gets $100, third gets $50. The prizes are also tradeable for custom titles (to be voted on by your peers, of course). You guys are in competition with SW&D, which has really taken hold of this idea and seen its potential, so you might want to start moving.

You guys need to remember that forums were never meant to facilitate and type of commerce, and that it is rather outdated technology which which people are becoming less and less familiar. The new formats and new functions on the site are designed to part to make the site less inaccessible to people are more comfortable with other types of social network technologies. I started on internet boards in... 1995 or so, and use-net was a huge deal. It's not really relevant anymore. Remember with Pine was the most awesome software for email? The point is that you have to adapt. It's not good enough to do one thing really well. We don't want to go the way of the Polaroid company.

As for an adless site for logged-in users, we are actively working on an option that will not have he issues that Adblock+ produces (it can actually slow down the site.) I will say no more about this, except that we are much more interested in keeping the community vibrant than we are in banner ads (which, honestly, are becoming a little outdated themselves).
