I have made no effort at all to compare "before and after" pricing of the entire B&S. I will assure you that my pricing is slightly lower. Most items are exactly the same but a significant number of prices have been lowered. Anything which is higher (maybe one or two pairs of shoes) is only because I was going by memory when putting a previously listed item in the new system.

was not referring to your specific pricing, but yeah, pricing is higher on SF in general compared to previously...

and to davesmith - why would I disagree with the facts? Absolutely, when you factor in gas, time (especially depending on what you do for your day job), etc B&S is just a favor to the community. We all still want to get the best value for our money.

Explain Mabitex, then. laugh.gif What do they retail for?

I'm beginning to think they're secretly a Daffy's house brand...

mabitex pricing:
wools are 59.99 + tax = ~$66
cottons are 29.99 to 39.99 + tax = ~$45

while in theory the pay-for-bump may end up cheaper than 5% drop, sellers may not feel that way. It is cheaper only if you get to sell something, not if you cannot sell it. People loath paying upfront even if it may be cheaper at the end. eBay hires tons of people to study the behaviors of sellers and buyers and it chose to basically waive listing fees in exchange for higher final fees. Think about it, sellers often end up paying more this way. But guess what, listing volume is up. Why do you think wireless carriers give you free phones? The lure of free entry upfront cannot be overestimated.

I am not comparing SF to eBay. I am only trying to make a point: people don't think or act in the "optimal" way Fok wants them to.

My understanding was that they sell for the above prices at Daffy's, a discount store...but don't they supposedly retail for like $200-$300? confused.gif

this is true. people do not operate in an optimal way. however, in this instance, there are no listing fees. only a fee to bump. if someone wants to sell their item, a $1 bump per thread is not bad... they can also drop the pricing on the items to entice buyers at that point.

Maybe I do not understand the new system, but how does the best offer feature work? It seems to be you just PM the seller your best offer via PM and see if they accept it or not. Is that the case?

ok. Incotex cottons, which retail at $30 - $40 at daffys retail for $300 to 325 at Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, etc stateside. In europe, I've personally seen cotton incotex for 300+ euros per pair.

Wool incotex that retail at daffys for 50 to 70 dollars retails at the same above retailers for about $695 / $700 dollars. Seen the same in europe for approx 500 euros.

Havent seen Mabitex in stores in america, but on yoox - these cottons start around $150ish and drop to about $80. Wools are about $180 on yoox. I've seen Mabitex in europe and they are priced similarly to incotex...

Either way, on SF you're getting a bargin.

I totally agree. I can much more easily justify paying a fee on money I just made, vs spending money to hopefully sell something (and it might not sell) even if the money upfront is a smaller percentage of the final price.

i see the best offer feature as an opportunity to let buyers know that there is room for negotiation. i have seen a few times that people say "price: $250 FIRM". by clicking best offer its time to start the smack.gif boxing[1].gif which will hopefully lead to cheers.giffistbump.gif . i love smileys

everything is always open to negotiation - overtly stated or not.

Thanks for the info! That's very helpful. And I agree, I'm very happy with my B&S finds, and the prices.
