2012 BMW 550ix - Page 3

I've finally driven two of the cars and will give a very short review.
A6: sublime interior, nice handling, excellent acceleration
550i : nice interior, nice handling, rocket like acceleration. Does not handle like an older BMW, the steering is much softer.
I'm rethinking the 550iX .

So which styling do you like more? The F10 (regular or M-sport) is by far the best looking new sedan IMO... esp the front headlights, corona rings / angel eyes are so much better than the Audi LED's, which every car seems to have now.

Also if you spend 3k on the Dinan software, the 550 will put out 573 ft-lb torque.

Yeah, I have looked into the Dinan software.
To be honest, I am split on the styling. The F10 has certain design elements I like and some I don't like. The Audi is much improved from the previous A6 but still is kinda blah.
I'm really thinking I want the increased HP and get a 550i Xdrive.

The one I'm eyeballing. Just enough balls and handling, but not over the top where you want to stomp the gas all the time. Like most Audis.

Thinking European Delivery for either the Audi or the BMW.
Anyone done it?

I wish. But I think it's actually cheaper than getting in the US right? I believe Volvo pays for your flight, accomodation and then ships the car back to the U.S. for you if you pick it up in Sweden. Apart from being an alpha as fuck big timer with no free time, I don't know why people buying appropriate european cars dont do it more often.

Gonna do it.
Gift to myself for turning 40 soon
BMW 550i Xdrive.

I want the torque and HP.
Don't need the size of a 750 or A8.

Good choice. And definitely do ED. My friend just came home from taking ED on his M3 convertible. Even if you don't count the benefits of a European vacation, he said driving his car on the autobahn and the twisty Italian roads was worth the trip. Not to mention......Nurburgring! bounce2.gif

Only problem is that he now has to wait a couple of months while his car is on the proverbial slow boat

Yeah
It takes 6-8 weeks to get it back.
I can't wait to do this.

I've got a deal for the car at european invoice + a small amount which pretty much pays for my trip there.

I am a diehard fan of Audi and Apple. SO anything that Audi or Apple makes, I’ll happily buy it. Audi A8 and A6 are just amazing to check out; I am yet to get a test drive.

I'm basing my recommendation on your explicit and implied wants. Firstly, you want AWD; secondly you're a 911 driver, so you enjoy a performance ride. Basically Audi revolutionalized the mass production AWD vehicle, and this AWD ride dominated the off-road rally circuit for many years. Audi is the performance AWD. BMW's X-drive is really just for driving in snow. Audi's technology, the Torsen differential, has many years on BMW's.

At the end of the day buy the one you like driving. Whichever one you buy, make sure you get snow tires, too.

I agree with all of the above. Especially the snow tires.
I'm just too in love with the horsepower of the 550iX. The AWD is basically for me to get to and from work when the weather gets really shitty as I have to go in everyday.
I have ordered a 550ix for european delivery.
The timing precludes me from gettting to drive in the Alps on some of the famed mountain passes but I wlll do a second one soon
