2012 BMW 550ix

I'm extremely interested in the 2012 Audi A6 (also the A8). I am currently not in a location where there is an Audi dealer within a reasonable distance that has one in stock..
My questions
1. Has anyone test driven one?
2. if so, how does it compare to the 535i?
3. How is the power and acceleration? Should I wait for the S6
4. How is the quality of the interior.
5. Is the A7 worth a look?

I am jonesing for a new car and I will need AWD or 4x4 for the winters when I relocate to the Cincinnati area in a month (I've lived there before) and I want to offload my Ford F150 as I am just tired of it.

Lots of good discussion, reviews, and comparisons of the A6 with the 535i on audiworld.com. I'm a fan of the A8 but also like the A6, the A7 not so much. Interiors are first rate and performance is okay, not great. The S6 should make for an excellent overall combo.

I should add my second car is a 2009 911 so I don't lack for the sporty side and performance. I just want something that I can push a little but rides nicer on the highway. I'm sick and tired of the F150.

the interior quality is excellent and in those terms, Audi is just widening the gap vs. BMW and others with every model year.

i haven't driven the F-chassis 5-series but the Audi doesn't strike me as particularly sporty, although the power is more than adequate. if you can hold out till the S6 i'd definitely give that a look before buying an A6. when the hell are we going to get the RS6?!?!

I've driven the new 6... It's nice if you want a smooth, safe cruiser... I think is especially true if you are a driver with a mind for sporty driving characteristics: the A4, A6 and A8" are Audi's nods to the mainstream, best-in-class interiors and ride, good value... and detached enough to be "safe and a little boring" to the performance-oriented driver.
The S models put the sport back into the equation. And the A7 and A5 plus s-lines are the "irrational choices" - great looks, better performance and the car you "don't need but really want".

Do you need the size of the 6?

I do need the size of the 6
I've been impressed with Audi catching up with BMW in the performance area
Mercedes is making cows and pigs. I'm pretty much done looking at them
The other alternative is a Panamera 4S.
I need the AWD.

My personal aesthetic opinion only as the top end is out of my league- but purely on style, if you can afford the a Panamera, I'd be getting an A8 or A8L rather than the 6, but I'm great at spending other's money. wink.gif

I'm great at spending my own money......unfortunately.
I'm just not sure I need the size of the A8, 750iX etc. I can afford the Panamera but I have a 911.
The BMW 550iX is appealing but I'm not sure I really needthe V8 and more HP.

This. I'm not that much of an Audi fan, but the A7 is one car that looks really good. Give it a try, you might like it.

Trust me as a fellow 997 owner - you want a car that albeit large, still handles well and has great power. Or else it will be such a step down that you'll never drive the new car. See if the S6 can cut it, or I guess the Panamera could be plan B

Your "alternative" is nearly twice as much money.

As to the A6, perhaps I'm too much of a BMW fan (currently own a 2008 535xi), but each time I've test driven an A6 I've found it a bit too detached compared to the BMW. That said, the F10, to me, is slightly more detached than my E60. I love the Audi interiors and technology, and think that the F10 vs. A6 comparison totally comes down to personal taste and which factors you give weight to over other factors. The drives are not identical and if you spend enough time in each you'll have a preference.
