Best Pro-Consumer Debit/Credit Card???

Thread Starter
That might be an oxymoron. Lately, I've heard complaints about 'poaching' - unauthorized or screwed-up transactions on debit cards, credit cards. Examples include double billing, unauthorized billing, etc. Is there a card that actually looks out for their customers?
Any card that will quickly address consumer complaints? Thanks in advance.

Capital one is the only card which does not charge international fees.

the platinum amex does not charge international fees either, but it does come with a heavier annual fee.

For starters, do not for any reason use a debit card.

OP, i always recommend using a credit card for most purchases and especially online.

think about it like this, you are spending (aka borrowing) someone else's money, thus if fraud occurs its not as much your problem as it is the credit cards.

if you use a debit card, that is straight out of your account and recovering the money can take days, whereas the credit card you can dispute and let them deal with it.

AMEX is great but too expensive imo, but if you spend the minimum to waive the $500 amex platinum fee, then it is totally worth it, great rewards and wonderful perks.

Can always go with amex preferred rewards gold - $175 AF but you get 15k points when you hit $30k spend

SPG Amex for me. My love for it is all over the Amex appreciation thread!

Saving up points for one big trip that I'm planning for within the next 2 years.

Best advice (after never carry a balance) is to only use 1 credit card. In the case of Amex, I do have a rewards M/C for the places that don't accept Amex.

Pay for everything with it. I pay for my $1.39 coffees on there.

I don't understand what practical use the annual fee cards have over just simple cash back for amex? What could possibly be worth the fee?

If the rate of return is higher and overcomes the fee, it's worthwhile.

Cashback is typically at 1? 1.5%?

The RoR for my SPG points works out to range between 2 - 2.8%

it depends on which card and your spend and/or travel patterns.

I get a number of benefits because of the massive amount of travel I do. More than covers the fee

Even ignoring rewards, amex provides other benefits for the annual fee. They're not necessarily unique to amex, but i'm doubting they're typically offered on no fee cards. You get insurance for emergency medical, trip interruption, lost baggage, car rentals, and a couple other things iirc.

Plus there are the misc perks for booking restaurants, shows, etc.

I'm probably going to get an MBNA cashback platinum or whatever it's called to supplement the AMEX at places that don't accept it.
