Agree 100%. The fun of the B&S is sifting through huge "closet clean-out" threads and finding gems. If I knew what I was looking for I'd probably be on ebay, If you're looking for statistics, just take a look at how few items have been listed in the classifieds; the old system did multiple pages per day.

This is actually my only problem with the new system. It would be better for me (efficient to list a number of items), better for my buyers (have a chance to see all of my 15.5-34 shirts in one place, for example), and other sellers (one bumped post containing 150 items only pushes the other guy's add one spot down the front page. 150 bumped posts of individual items blasts his listing to page 4). The previous system required me to consolidate a large number of items into a single post, and I think there was solid reasoning behind that policy. Now I am prohibited from putting multiple items in a single post.

Also, here is a question which I posted in another thread. It didn't get answered there: I just posted a Black Fleece jacket for sale in size BB1. I have the same jacket in sizes BB2, BB3, and BB4. By my interpretation of the sales rules, it would be a violation for me to list the other sizes in the post. Is this correct? I seems that one of the goals of the old system to keep a Power Seller from blasting a one-item occasional seller off page 1 with only a few minutes of exposure, but this system is set up to do just that. If I have 4 khaki BF jackets and 7 colors of BB Solid Repp silk ties ($30 each so they miss the $25 threshhold) , how does it benefit anyone for me to make 11 sales posts instead of 2?

I understand the need for the change of software, and the rest of it all works OK for me.

1. the site is ugly. fonts are too large, too much vertical space, and too much scrolling. it looks shitty within threads, but the real problem is the forum display. way too much space in between thread titles so it's inconvenient to quickly check what threads are new. same issue with search results. 10 thread titles per page in search results is a massive inconvenience when you have 500 thread results. should be more like 50, with minimum space in between thread titles so you can quickly locate your result. wasted space, excessive scrolling etc. make this site very unpleasant to use.

2. the new B&S sucks. people are used to having B&S in threads, where you can list multiple things, bump threads, etc. the best sellers have threads with dozens of items and people want to see those organized in threads, not the bullshit item by item thing. what you end up having is like a million item listings that no one has the time or patience to browse.

3. all the ads, javascript, etc. makes it very slow to use. i can easily browse at home where i have a fast laptop with firefox and noscript (which disables the scripts), but I can no longer browse efficiently at work. also it's terrible that the website landing page isn't the forum listing. no one cares about the bullshit that is currently on the front page.

If you don't sort the above out, I will probably still visit the site often, but eventually our collective enthusiasm will fade and we will drift toward other places to hang out on the internet.

Remember that we weren't born as men's clothing aficionados. Most of us found this site because we had some random curiosity about clothes and decided to stick around because we found there to be a good community, interesting discussions, high volume of new threads, etc. Your sponsors and advertisers benefit from that phenomenon; I've bought a ton of stuff that I didn't even know about without SF. If that stuff disappears we'll sooner or later just hop to a different forum on a completely different topic (watches, a/v equipment, cars, sports, whatever) and enrich those advertisers.

This guy summed it up perfectly. I noticed in the OP's post that VB 4.X was an unknown? I think giving that a shot rather than this frankenformat would be wise, but who am I to say?

does anyone else find themselves having to post a classified and then edit it 100 times before it looks normal because they cant make it look right the first time??

the editor that opens when i click make a new classified doesnt let me do anything like add colors and the spoilers always messes up, then when i edit it i get to use the rich format editor which fixes everything icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gificon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Rule #2 under buyers got moved to rule #8 the other day, but now it appears to be back at #2 for buyers instead of #8 for sellers. No clue why it is a buyer rule as it is telling sellers not use ask for personal payments through paypal.

I was having this problem originally, but if you got into your profile, then click account details. Under Site Preferences, you can change the Preferred Editor Type to open in rich format so you dont have to go back and change it. The only neg is if you are putting photos in though html (like I do), you need to click on the source button on the top left which will flip it back to the BB code editor, put your pictures in and then click the source button again to see it in rich formating. This does away with the "preview" button we use to have. One of the nicer things on the new forum actually once you know how the different formating sources work.

We are actually going to change the rules to allow dutch auctions (like the BB suiit example). As long as the description (save size) and prices are the same, we will alow it. Chaning the system to have a number field may take a little longer.

Cheers,

Fok.

J, LA Guy, and other mods: thanks as always for all the work you've put into the new forum. The Huddler system seems to be a very good new foundation. Like with a new building in real life, there are going to be bugs that need to be worked out.

Having worked as a web developer in a past life I know how hard it can be to iron out usability issues. I think the new site is generally very good, lots of stuff I never thought of.

It takes time to smooth things out, but the site is pretty good for v 1.0

Well said as usual globetrotter..

I'm a bit confused, can the mods please explain the new bumping system in the B&S/Classifieds?

If I have the basic account I understand that I can bump my sales thread after 7 days - how does this work, is the system set up to automatically bump up the threads or do I need to post a reply to the thread in order to bump it? If it is the latter, must I drop the price as well or has the price drop rule changed now that we are on the new system?

Also, will posting in someones classified thread bump it to the front page? Is posting in classified threads even allowed, I haven't seen any replies to sales threads so far?

Thanks for this.icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif
I was afraid nobody was listening.
The site is still very slow for me. Too slow to read a thread. Is there anyway to drastically speed it up.
Looking at the Alexa rankings of SF, I noticed that the site has been rated as "Very Slow". Will this improve over time?
