Wearing shirts untucked; length, cut, etc. (Tailoring experts?)

Hello all,

Something I have wondered and would like explained.

My every day wear is a pair of jeans, some nice brown leather shoes, and a button-up shirt.  The shirt is always untucked, as that's how I like it.  I buy shirts that are meant to be untucked, and it works out fine.

However, sometimes I find a nice shirt that I would like to wear untucked, but it's too long to do so.  So the obvious answer seems to be that hey, get 'em tailored so that the body (tail, etc.) is short enough to wear untucked without looking like a dress.

So I did it with a couple of shirts, and when they came back from the tailor's, they looked kind of awkward; the last button was too close to the bottom of the shirt and the shirt body itself looked kind of...boxy,
Why is that - is it just my imagination cause I know the shirt is altered and I'm imagining nothing, or do shirts taper, and mine does not have that natural flow to it?

I bought a couple of new shirts and I need to get them shortened to wear them untucked.

I'll show you what I'm talking about - is there any way to hem a shirt like this to wear at an untucked length without it looking weird, or did I basically purchase the wrong kind of tail to wear the way I want?

Here's a pic to illustrate the current length and see if it can be shortened to wear untucked without looking too long or awkward.

just tuck it in. If you find its too boxy get the back of the shirt darted as well. In regards to the buttons being in the wrong spot, thats probably because you're is cutting a few inches off the bottom, so it screws the proportions up. Thats something you'll just have to deal with I suppose.

You could always try a different tailor.

Also get different jeans.
