Nice haul K. Really like the medallions though they are subtly phallic. Which #s were those? 8171 and...?

ThinkD, I'll post pics if I get some time this weekend.

The left shoe is the 8171 Burnt Pine Calf with crepe sole, the middle shoe is the Hill Black Calf - sort of a medallion toe, whole cut, faux austerity design, the right shoe is 8170 Wingtip Burnt Pine Calf + Suede. There maybe a hidden message in the medallion, but they are men's shoes after all.

Worth noting that the leather on these was a bit dry when they arrived. I would suggest a couple of rounds of leather conditioner, shoe cream and polish before the first wear to bring out the best in these shoes. I am wearing the Hill Black Calf today and they have fit really well from the first wear.

Been meaning to do more research/ask. I use Venetian shoe cream. For dry leather would you also recommend adding conditioner to the mix?

I use Venetian on my Shell Cordovan's. I hadn't thought to use it on other leather. What do others do?

I think there are a number of good threads on the forum covering proper care and conditioning of shoes that are definitely worth a read. That said here is what I did to the three pairs pictured above:

  1. Remove shoe laces
  2. Vigorous brushing to remove any dust/dirt
  3. Apply Lexol conditioner all over including the soles of the shoes with a small brush and allow to dry 10-15min (conditioner hazes over)
  4. Brush until luster starts to return (separate brush for brown and black)
  5. Repeat conditioning steps
  6. Insert shoe trees
  7. Apply thin layer of appropriate color Meltonian shoe cream with two latex gloved fingers wrapped in an old t-shirt, and allow to dry 10-15 min
  8. Brush until luster starts to return
  9. Repeat shoe cream steps
  10. Apply thin layer of wax with two latex gloved fingers wrapped in an old t-shirt, occasionally mist t-shirt with water sprayer
  11. Gently brush and then buff toe with a felt cloth
  12. Repeat wax steps
  13. Relace shoes
  14. Go to SF and buy more shoes...

Liberal libations and distracting TV consumed in parallel. Your mileage may vary...

Thanks. Don't mean to hijack this thread. I'll hit the shoe care thread too.

Do pretty much exactly the same thing as Kauai except I just wait probably 5 minutes for creams and waxes and I do not use trees (more of a personal preference). I do this much work typically every 3 to 4 months. When I just need a quick polish, I use Meltonian Balm to clean up the shoes then a run of wax polish.

Most of the shoes from PS have this "raw" leather feel (mine included) and I actually like it because I get to see the leather become richer with the polishing. I don't dare get 2-tone thought because it would be too much work for me.
