I'm using my laptop with a 1680 x 1050 resolution and this appears QUITE bad to me.

I find myself browsing the forum much less after the change:confused:

I suspect the only people who don't have issue with all the clutter and wasted white space are people who use SF exclusively to sell things, which unfortunately seems to be the new catered-to clientele.

For those who are wanting to get rid of the sidebar, your best bet is to download a plugin called Adblock. It's available for Chrome, Firefox and Safari as far as I know.

Works wonders!

It's just awful on my 1024x600 netbook. Properly designed websites should make the appropriate adjustments what whatever screen resolutions are in use.

I find NoScript is a must for SF now, to stop all the third-party nonsense and possibly overheating my laptops.

In addition to netbooks, it's really difficult to browse on a BlackBerry or my iPod Touch. The pages themselves often come in at over 300K and that's for a thread with no pictures.

I kept thinking I would get bumped to a mobile version of the site.

That's what SF really needs, a mobile version of the site. Easily accessible at say m.styleforum.net for those who need it, including myself. Tapatalk is still broken for SF, and is NOT available on all mobile OSs.

The sidebar doesn't bother me, it only affects the first two posts if you screw with your settings a bit. Not a big deal.

There is a big problem with the fact that every post takes up at least the space of the new larger avatar + name + tag + online status + post count + location block. For the average post of a few lines, these leads to a huge amount of dead white space before the next post and thus only seeing two or three posts per screen. That's on my 1680 x 1050 desktop. On the Droid, I see one post per screen, and there's some weird flickering while scrolling. It's not as intolerable as I would have feared, really not a big issue on the phone considering.

Wait, I am already using adblock so I didn't even have an issue with this sidebar people keep speaking of. You are telling me this new forum experience is even worse than what I'm experiencing?

Adblock definitely helps. Just gonna take some getting used to I suppose...

For the record I'm browsing on a 1080p 42 inch screen and I can see max 2.5 posts at a time.

Maximum of two posts at a time here, and these are single line posts.

Chrome full screen, 1440x900 15inch Macbook Pro.

Hopefully the Huddler people are seeing screenshots like this, to get it fixed. smile.gif

UPDATE:-

I've just had a quick look at some of the Huddler partner showcase forums. On those I'm seeing probably 4-5 posts at a time, as I would expect. Difference is their avatars are much smaller, i.e. the avatars are too big on SF. I originally uploaded my Beijing opera mask avatar at something like 100x100. Looked fine on the old SF, now it looks extremely fuzzy and interpolated due to the apparent upscaling. Also apparent on those showcase forums, is that there is much less white space surrounding each avatar, and below a poster's 'location' information.

I agree with the general sentiment expressed above. The layout is unattractive, inefficient and the ads are very annoying. What was wrong with vBulletin that we had to change to a lumbering Javascript monster? It's terribly slow on mobile devices as well.

I also don't care for the new B&S layout. Instead of scanning a page of items and getting a general idea of what was for sale before scrolling or clicking, now I have to wade through pages of single listings. Call me crazy, but some of the imaginative thread titles were part of the fun of shopping here. Now it just feels like Ebay.

The new layout and aesthetics are fine with me (apart from the wasted space as others have mentioned - 2 posts per page is ridiculous) but it's just sooooooo damn slow to load.

I suppose I could faff about installing stuff to improve it but I don't have these performance issues with any other website I visit so I'm not going to for the sake of one forum.

I won't bother visiting again unless the load time becomes realistic and I suspect it will also be putting off a lot of other first-time visitors and casual users.

Is no one getting huge icons in the quick reply box at the bottom of the page ? The icons for bold, italics etc are the largest things on my screen. iPad default browser

They look OK to me, Safari and Chrome on Mac.
