Shorts with shorter inseams

I have come to notice that alot of inseams on most shorts are 9 inches. Well I am only around 5'7 and a 9 inch inseam still hangs to low on my knee. Does anyone know of anywhere where maybe they sell 7 inch inseams for a decent price?

Depends on what you mean by decent price, but I would recommend buying the shorts you like and having them hemmed.

I'm a bit shorter than you and I always have them altered. Life is expensive for the vertically challenged.

In order to get the right length it is easier and cheaper to get shorts that fit in the waist and have them tailored to length. I have all my shorts done that way.

What kind of shorts?

Running shorts ? Swim trunks?

The other problem might be waist sizes. I think most companies increase inseam with the waist size.

Just went through this yesterday. Lands' End (not a typo anymore- it was when they screwed it up setting up their business) makes 6" inseams, but they start those at 32" waists, the bastards. If you're short AND fit, you would have to buy the 8" ones.

But LL Bean makes 6" ones down to a 30" waist. Less colors (Dark green, 3 shades of khaki, or navy), but they have a wider selection of options. Cargo shorts, stretch waist versions, pleated and unpleated chino shorts, pleated and unpleated wrinkle resistant chino shorts... Yeah, really. Seemingly the exact same thing but with or without the chemical treatment.

I wound up going with these in olive.

I wear a 33/34 inch waist. It really matters what brand I buy. Is lands end good quality? I'm in college and have really never heard of them. It's mostly Polo, Vineyard Vines, and Southern Tide were I am from.

Lands' End and LL Bean both build stuff to last. Hell, LL Bean has a lifetime warranty, what more do you want?

It's not going to be quality in the sense of high end luxury fabrics, and their jackets ain't gonna be canvassed. But the stuff typically holds up to a great deal of use and flat out abuse. For good quality basics, you could do a hell of a lot worse.

They don't do flashy fashion so much (though they do now- LL bean has a signature line and Lands End has their Canvas line, both are basically Americana in modern fits), they just do well made basics with reliable sizing. LL Bean leans more outdoorsy, they began life just selling the Maine Hunting Shoe (aka the bean boot), which was designed for duck hunting, and still maintain a significant presence with outdoor gear. Lands' End is just basic, classic clothing.

You may not have heard of them because they're both pretty much exclusively mail order, and don't bother advertising. But they're certainly pretty known and trusted brands.

Do you guys ever find it hard to order online though. I mean how do you know if the fit is right. For instance, most short shirts in mediums will fit my body but will hang to low below my waist. Fit is important. Are these brands good on returns and helping you out? I just saw some of lands end chino pants on sale for 19.99. I may pick me up a few for that price.

Edit: Never mind, they have a 9" inseam.

Their fits are generally TTS, and they are good with returns. They're mail order, it's something they're used to. If you have questions, I bet you could get measurements off somebody if you called.

Also, Lands end has a deal with sears these days, so you can often find some stuff in a special stock section there if you're desperate to try stuff on.
