FEEDBACK THREAD about the '-NEW-' look of Styleforum - Page 2

I like the B/S section better. I miss my "User CP" tab though. (I think that's what it was, it was the tab on the far left) Sometimes I just want to see my subscriptions, not all the threads I posted in...

New forum layouts always take some time to get used to, so I'll manage. Nevertheless I feel that the new looks is a bit messy. I personally prefer the old version.

  • The issue of the advertisements on the side is a significant one which needs to be addressed. On a notebook with a typical small screen they make reading the messages nigh impossible to say the least and irritating on a full size wide screen as well as the whole is simply so cluttered. The polls on the point were quite clear and it is very regrettable that these have simply been ignored.

Surely they can go back at the top out of the way which served us so well for so long. Annoying readers will not make them any more likely to buy from the advertisers.

  • Where has the members list gone?

  • Placing the 'submit' icon to the right of the preview button is counter intuitive and reversing them would make life very much easier.

  • Finally having submitted a message, it takes very much longer to load than the original site

The sticky threads are important as a means of telling the members what the vision of the forum is.
The WAYRN threads are the heart of the forum.

SW&D still has their sticky threads: where have ours gone?

Even in SW&D, and the others, the sticky threads list doesn't look like much. I'd like it to have
some more visual importance signifiers.

Having signatures default to the bottom of the post is one. How many times have you read the sig thinking it was the post?
That's especially bad when the sig has a B&S link, an image of the item they are selling. It's like visually highlighted spam.

I'm sure I'll be a big fan of the new platform in the long run. In the short run there are a lot of visual layout things to deal with.

another forum im on often did a similar change and everyone was in uproar just like now, the change was made for the better, im sure the backend in loads better than it was before, and the UI changes everyone will get used too, just because its different doesnt make it bad

When I go to the homepage, it looks very cluttered with too much spam advertisements. The fonts are awkward looking.

Sorry but the new "design" is a complete mess on iPad. It takes longer to load and is visually cluttered. Go to preview.com to see how it should be done.

Search is as bad as ever. google site search is still the only way to search the place.
Search results must be shown in full - the combination of quoting and showing a preview of a post in search means that the search will display repeated quotes only.
Most importantly, where's the ignore list? I will not live on a forum with iroh, pantisocrat, Lord-Barrington, among others.

Re. the clear and submit - I know. But it's hardcoded in. Unfortunately, something we are going to have to live with and get used to. It's on top of the priority list if things to do.

The site also loads very fast for me, but the submissions take longer than they should. I'm going to bring this to the immediate attention of the developers.

Member list is on the front page, in the right hand margin.

The right hand margin is not going away. It's a feature of the new system which I actually liked (it drew me in, and I tend to like ads), but that's where j had a better feel than did I about people liking it. Luckily, There will be ad units, but also content, including hopefully, lots of reviews, links to editorial articles (stay tuned, we are trying to figure out a format for "Mike and Matt (Manton and Iammatt) in the morning,)

Unfortunately, some of our favorite stores, web or otherwise, have no feeds, so we are hoping that users will actually manually submit reviews. I am horrible at stuff like that, and it took me about 5 minutes to do mine (APC jeans - took the pictures from the Context webpage). It is really in all of our interests. It helps new users find information about specific items quickly, making people less likely to ask "what are APC jeans?" "Where do I buy Attolini at discount", which clutters up the main forums. I will probably set up an incentive system - the first person to hit 100 reviews (and remember, I will review them, and can delete them, so useless reviews do not count") will get a gift certificate and/or a custom title. Please feel free to suggest other incentives.

The sticky threads - tbh, I don't know what happened. They were there, and then they were gone. If you can email me the URLs, j or I can rebuild that. Also, I can easily make it more visually appealing.

Got it. Thanks.

In the Buying and Selling...

If I'm on the second page, for instance, of the Men's Clothing section and click "back" after viewing an item on the second page, it brings me back to the FIRST page of the B&S. Also, when I click to jump to the second page of the B&S after viewing the first, it does not take me to the top of the second page. It has just been throwing me randomly somewhere amongst the page.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

So far the site looks great and loads faster on my computer. However, there are two serious issues not related to nostalgia.

1. Like I stated before, you can't reply or reply with a quote by opening a new tab anymore. It just takes you to the top of the page. It's a feature I've used extensively

2. The site loads FOREVER on my smart phone and is pretty unreadable with all the ads on the right side. But since that's not going away, I guess there is no reason to complain. I just wish you guys would update the tapatalk software so I could use BoardExpress Pro from my phone.
