It's almost unusable on an iPhone. The poorly designed layout really shows it's it's failure on a small screen. Pages are extremely slow to load, do not load completely, and scrolling, pinching, and other navigation is mostly broken or unusable.
I usually see projects like this come about when you have a few engineers, a few marketing people, and some guys who have a half formed idea of what they think they want, but there is no involvement with UX designers or quality assurance, and there is not an actual beta period. Unless you count right now as a beta, I suppose that would be fair.
It's very telling that many of the suggested "fixes" in these support threads run along the lines of
"See, end users can reconfigure their browsers to cope with failed default presentation issues, and then they can make some elements of the display less fail"
"Well, the default settings may be whacky, but go into your user account controls and make all sorts of changes, so you can set things the way any sane person would have defaulted all user configuration to begin with"
"Gee whiz, now that we see stuff, we realize it is not well laid out, but hey all of that stuff is hard coded now, so I guess we will live with it"
I think I saw some reference to some issues being dealt with if people install new plugins in their browsers? ORLY?
I enjoy the implication that many issues are resolved by viewing the site at full screen on a 90 inch monitor.
On the plus side, I have not sen any weird Swiss underwear ads yet.Edited by Archivist - 7/15/11 at 8:00pm
