This is basically a little like tags in the old forum where each thread would be tagged by the OP or a smart ass, but in this system we choose from a bunch of preselected tags that are generated by content providers (or shills as the case my be) and we can add to that list. Why is it such a prominent feature? Is it basically to drive traffic to the site through google searches of those tag terms?
Styleforum has gotten tons of traffic from google well before the new system (we've seen this on google analytics for years.) However, the tags are more "intelligent", and are better at allowing us to connect related data.
From the user standpoint, there are 2 real benefits:
1) If you are looking for something, you will get related, relevant results that may be interesting to you
2) Noobs are directed to useful threads automatically, hopefully decreasing clutter.
At least, that's my perception. J is probably better at explaining this than am I, tbh.
