You got issues? I got answers - Page 14

How do you bump a sales listing? I dropped the price with no results - the listing is still on page 7.

There are hover effects on EVERYTHING. Every toolbar, every cell, every link ... it's crazy obnoxious and a lot of bloat that just slows the site down.

There really isnt much need for price drops and bumping anymore. Due to every item being on its own, it is more like ebay where you can sort items by: last updated, newest listed, most recent reply, price (high to low), price (low to high). Once you have the ability to sort items (hopefull eventually sort by size of jacket, pants, shoes, etc), bumping an item only makes a difference when someone sorted the forum to show newest listed, most recent reply, etc. If you are sorting by price, then bumping your thread makes zero difference. IMO the B&S is not really a forum anymore but more like ebay and you don't see people bumping listings on ebay do you?

Embedded youtube videos are no longer encased in a spoiler-style tag...

I liked this feature...especially since people frequently quote videos which leaves a bunch of open youtube videos all over the page.

there seems to be some issues with the conversion to do with spoiler tags... eg in my sales thread, one item was spoilered but it's grabbed several. or here's another example (pic intensive) - http://www.styleforum.net/forum/thread/253439/waywrn-hall-of-fame-pre-2010/0_60#post_4644682
there's the name maomao, with spoiler below, but within that spoiler are several other spoilers...

I can't seem to be able to search by poster in the B&S threads.

My example is pocketsquareguy
and the MC classifieds
where he has a couple of items on the front page.

I can do an advanced search and ask it for all of pocketsquareguy's threads in MC classified, and the search returns nothing.

Since I definitely have favorite sellers (RJman, anyone?) I'd love to be able to do this.

1. The B&S is new, not functional. Read all the problems people are having browsing items, searching, and getting sent back to the first page of B&S listings.

2. In the past, bumps have served an important role in letting prospective buyers that the price has been lowered. And why build the "bumping" feature into the system if it serves no purpose?

3. No price drops? Is this going to be the first 100% efficient marketplace?

TBH I think the new SF has left every mobile device dead in the water. It's quite unusable on Android(phones and tablets) as well as iOS. Basically one can forget the full SF experience, unless one has a high specced PC or Mac.

1. The B&S is new...OK?

2. "In the past"... The past is the past, they only serve a very limited purpose in a classified type system, instead of a major aspect in a forum type system. The new B&S is a classified system, not a forum. You kind of need to know what your looking for, and then search it out. Bumping is going to have a very minor impact unless they change how the B&S works, as it wont necessarily bring the item to the "top".

3. Of course you need price drops, but the need to group a price drop with a bump is not needed anymore as the reason they were coupled to start with was so people did not just keep bumping a thread to the top. As per 2. bumps have a minor impact so you don't need to hold a gun to someones head with a price drop in order to bump a thread. You can drop the price when you feel it is needed to create a more fluid marketplace as each item is its own thread. Do you see "bumps" and "price drops" on eBay, not really...

PS - Love those Incotex Sartoriale's 30's you just sold on Ebay, bummed my bid was a tad low.

PPS  - Sorry for going off subject. I'll let the MOD's handle this one.

Am I the only one missing the "I got answers" part of this threak?
I'm sorry for derailing this thread. I'm looking for an answer on how "bumping" operates in the new system from one of the mods/programmers, not a philosophical discussion on how the future B&S will exist.

Edit: I gather those with upgraded seller status can bump 4 or 2 days (depending on membership level), but regular listings are subject to the 7 day limit irrespective of price drops...

btw, I just browsed the forum with an ipad 2, and everything worked just fine (except for the forum selector hover-up). So I guess there is at least one mobile device for which the site works.

It's right under the forum title on the forum thread view screen (http://www.styleforum.net/forum/list/5/men-s-clothing)

Can I set it to automatically mark as read all the posts that were unchanged since my last login, the way that it automatically did by default w/phpbb? Searched this thread and the forum for it, but didn't see anything on that. Pain in the butt to have to remember to mark everything as read every time I'm about to leave the forum.

How long should it take for a post from a new user to be approved? Why do some threads have a wait time while others (like this one) do not?

Thank you for adressing my issue in part!smile.gif It is good to have a my posts button.

One other thing; while the forum is still on the heavy side it loads faster on my phone (as complained about by me in another thread) when I set the # of posts back to 40 instead of 100. Not perfect yet, but definitely better.

The drop down menu really could use some improvement. I tried using it on my HTC Desire HD (on Adroid 2.3.5, IIRC) with Miren, Skyfire, Dolphin and the native browser. And the result is all the same. I'm guessing especially after reading spoopoker's and other's comments on it that it's a problem with touch devices and the way the drop down menu works.

A way to solve this IMO would be to either make the drop down menu button a 'hard' one, instead of one that is activated by hovering one's mouse, or make the I've posted and New posts 'hard' buttons. The little tech savvy I command tells me there will be more and more touch devices in the very near future....

Less important, but slightly annoying all the same is the loss of middle mouse function, which I've set to open in new tab, on a normal computer for the reply/quote buttons. That just opens the same thread at the first post.
