You got issues? I got answers - Page 9

Tapatalk isn't working for me. The forum doesn't load any threads if I view it by categories/subforums, but I can get into threads I've posted in like this one now.

Check that, the only subforum that loads correctly is New Forum Support.

it looks like some of the formatting is messed up. eg - http://www.styleforum.net/forum/thread/241685/the-3rd-styleforum-fragrance-sample-swap-box/105#post_4670981
where this post was a vertical list, it's now turned into one paragraph... is this my browser setting, part of the changeover, etc?

I see one paragraph as well.

i guess its not optimal under the new system of one item per thread ...

edit: can we also save our settings to have our subscriptions update live instead of always having to click that button option?

also for proxying ... i got lots of requests to help others out proxying since i posted on the generic "i got the hookup" proxying thread. any way to get these reinstated?

A couple more considerations/questions on type and spacing:

- On the forum home pages, is it possible to just list the user name in the Last Posts column, not the whole post? It is a little cumbersome to scan now.

- Can we get 1 point larger type on thread titles, too? And bold titles once you're in a thread?

- When responding to multi quotes within a post, the response seems to be very far from the quote. Any way to close that space?

- Can signatures be aligned at the bottom of the post (near the flag) and not immediately following the poster's comments?

- How about going to one vertical column for the banner ads instead of two? It will give the content a little more breathing room AND the ads will stay in front of more eyeballs as we scroll. satisfied.gif

Thanks for taking our suggestions. We probably sound like whiners, but I think there a lot of people who really enjoy being here and want to make it work the best it can. Thanks for all the hard work.

I agree with all of this. Good list, Parker.

I'm having similar issues on a 2GHz MacBook with 4GB RAM. Just scrolling around the forum feels like I'm in a laggy flash app; it's unbelievable. Probably to due with the ridiculous amount of animations etc. everywhere. The old forum wasn't flashy, but at least it didn't slow down my three year old computer.

Does anyone else have trouble uploading pictures to classifieds? When I upload pictures the progress box says 'please wait' for many minutes and sometimes the browser tells me a plugin is unresponsive. When I go to check my listing, sometimes the pictures are not all loaded. For the record, I'm using chrome ver 12 on windows 7.

unc whats your browser? safari?

im on a pro using chrome with no real issues. although safari on iphone/ipad blows for sf atm

As I stated, I'm using chrome. I've noticed that I don't seem to have the problem if I only upload one photo at a time then go back and edit the post to upload more photos. If I try to upload a bunch of photos at once, it doesn't seem to work.

Unfortunately, I am finding noscript a huge pain when trying to use the rest of the internet. I can't find a way to have it only run on Style Forum.

Vast numbers of sites have figured out how to run scripts that don't hammer browsers. Maybe you guys should work on that.

It's interesting seeing all the scripts running from external sources. It's even more interesting seeing Sponsor links (Will's A Suitable Wardrobe store) that now link to spam, not to the sponsor site. I'd like to think you guys are not involved in that, but it's hard to see how you aren't. Trust is a valuable commodity, and it's easily lost. Edit: J fixed the links to Will's Sponsor link.

I enjoy Styleforum. I've learned some interesting and entertaining things from other members here. I've tried to answer questions as I can, and post things I think others may be interested in. It would be a shame to have to quit using the site because of poor design (and I mean technical design issues here, performance design issues, scripts attacking browsers design issues, spam generating link design issues) decisions. As I evaluate things, I find it's not really acceptable to have to run as intrusive and restrictive an add on as no script just to access one particular site, particularly when a consequence of that is losing parts of the site I found useful.

You guys made some poor decisions in the development of this new site. You should revisit them.

And the automatic line spacing of bigger text is... er... not adjusted to bigger text...

J,

Thank you for the response and the hard work. It seems like numerous people are having image upload issues - is there an optimal size/resolution range for images?

Also, I noticed that one of my listings (RLPL 40) is appearing in general results, but not when you narrow by category "Suits and Blazers" - is there any workaround for this? Can the programmers simply make specifying a category mandatory for listings to post (or at least allow for a "Non-Categorized" drop down)?

Thank you,

Try Ghostery for Firefox. It's a smart javascript blocker that blocks only ad or tracking-related javascript while leaving the rest alone. It works great for me on all kinds of sites in addition to SF.

I think we're going to have to give them a week or two to work things out. The biggest immediate problem is that things aren't working as they're supposed to. Before making any changes to the new site and incorporating user ideas about what's optimal and what's not, they're going to get it running the way they had envisioned, and that hasn't happened yet.
