Wow. Well, I did say I'm an idiot. It seems lighter, brighter to me. Maybe it's just the extra dead space making more of the page plain white.

Hiland,

Performance using Safari on an iPhone is PAINFUL! Scrolling lags and I've had Safari crash a few times. It feels like America Online circa 1997. What's the deal? I never had these issues on the old system.

Thanks. I hope it's temporary as well. It would be a shame if some of those great old threads got munged up.

I think your are correct, all the added white space gives it a very different tone. The fonts do look better though, both on a desktop and on my iPhone.

The noscript add on for Firefox helps quite a bit. It's too bad it zero's out the sponsor links, I liked those. But I'd rather lose them than deal with the performance hit all those scripts were causing. I wonder if there is anything analogous for Safari on the iPhone.

Featured Sponsors: If I run in a browser without the no script add on so I can see these, I notice that the View More drop down always lists only Mortar. Is this correct? Should that drop down have more options to select from?

same here. also the quotes is kinda messed up. spoilers also dont work anymore. and i cant browse anything other than health and body and fine living cuz everything else never loads.

Hello

Thought I'd let you know about this one. Sorry if you've already been made aware.

I went to Men's Classifieds to see how the new system of categorization works. I clicked on the drop down menu and chose 'Suits and Blazers'. I was taken to the page that shows all the suits. I then clicked on the first link that interested me. I read the description, viewed a few pics, then decided to go back to the 'Suits' page. I have my mouse set up to do the 'back' function by pressing my scroll wheel to the left. I did so...

and I was taken back to the main Men's Classifieds page which shows everything. Of course, I didn't want that, I wanted to go back to the 'Suits and Blazers' page. But what's really weird is that the drop down menu now says 'Suits and Blazers' and I can't go to it and choose it again. It thinks I'm already there, even though I'm not. What I had to do was click the drop down menu, choose 'Footwear', go over to the Footwear page, and then click the drop down again and choose 'Suits and Blazers'.

Once you've requested the 'Suits and Blazers' page and then click through to a particular sale, there is a 'path tree' below the post which shows the --> type of progression of where you are. Right now the tree goes like this

Forums-->Buying And Selling-->Men's Clothing Classifieds-->BNWT Bruno Cucinelli solid gray... etc

What is needed here is for 'Suits and Blazers' to be interpolated between Men's Clothing Classifieds and BNWT Bruno Cucinelli etc etc

I tried the whole thing using the 'back' button on my browser (Firefox 3.6.18) and the same thing happened. This is one the boys down in programming will have to figure out, or else the natives will become very restless.

I'm having an issue with the classifieds. If I click on a classified, and I hit back, it returns me to the first page of the classifieds, rather than the page the classified was on. I've had this issue in chrome and in FF.

I didn't mind the SF adverts either, I miss them already. Problem for SF though, if everyone goes zeroing out the sponsor's adverts via NoScript, AdBlock or whatever to make the site usable, it means no income for SF. Paying sponsors will NOT be happy if nobody sees their ads.

I noticed this too. Hard to navigate this way unless you're right-clicking and using tabs

OK, so I tried it again this morning, and it seems to have worked. A few bugs though - when viewing the list that populates, the posts come out in all html code which takes up most of the preview box, and you have to click on each and every post to see what it says, which is kind of annoying. It looks like this :

Also, if you want to start a new search with the same parameters, you cant just go back to the field and type a new search - you have to go back, start over, and assign all the parameters again. Does that make sense? I think it should be once you define the parameters for your search, you can then go in the field and change the text to search for whatever you want with the same terms. Is that an option? Hitting back on the browser tab resets everything.

J, Hiland,

 

The drop down menu really could use some improvement. I tried using it on my HTC Desire HD (on Adroid 2.3.5, IIRC) with Miren, Skyfire, Dolphin and the native browser. And the result is all the same. I'm guessing especially after reading spoopoker's and other's comments on it that it's a problem with touch devices and the way the drop down menu works.

 

A way to solve this IMO would be to either make the drop down menu button a 'hard' one, instead of one that is activated by hovering one's mouse, or make the I've posted and New posts 'hard' buttons. The little tech savvy I command tells me there will be more and more touch devices in the very near future....

 

Less important, but slightly annoying all the same is the loss of middle mouse function, which I've set to open in new tab, on a normal computer for the reply/quote buttons. That just opens the same thread at the first post.

Yes! Thank you. I think part of the issue people are having with the new site is "everything" is different. The Verdana font is not only more readable than Tehoma, but has more familiar continuity to the SF we all know and love.

A couple more considerations/questions on type and spacing:

- On the forum home pages, is it possible to just list the user name in the Last Posts column, not the whole post? It is a little cumbersome to scan now.

- Can we get 1 point larger type on thread titles, too? And bold titles once you're in a thread?

- When responding to multi quotes within a post, the response seems to be very far from the quote. Any way to close that space?

- Can signatures be aligned at the bottom of the post (near the flag) and not immediately following the poster's comments?

- How about going to one vertical column for the banner ads instead of two? It will give the content a little more breathing room AND the ads will stay in front of more eyeballs as we scroll. satisfied.gif


Thanks for taking our suggestions. We probably sound like whiners, but I think there a lot of people who really enjoy being here and want to make it work the best it can. Thanks for all the hard work.
