What's the deal with this guy in the bathroom? (Public Bathroom Etiquette) - Page 64

For the floor ones you have to pee on the back of the urinal and get the precise angle so that the splatter is minimized. Think regression equations: minimize the sum of square trajectory.

there's some major design flaws out there. Like the urinals that have that little metal cap thing down in the bowl, but the cap is screwed in with a giant screw and any time the stream hits the screw (naturally located right in the middle of the bowl) it's splatter away.

In my office there are two urinals. One is optimal height for just about anybody. The other is the height that only a toddler could possibly use. I have no idea what they were thinking with that one. Essentially there is only one useable urinal. Makes no sense.

the toddler one might be a building code thing. I'll ask my wife.

also, pB, we should grab drinks at Morimoto sometime. Easily my favorite restroom in NYC, I honestly make a point to take a dump when I'm there. Their stall toilet is super fancy with its heated seat and warm water asshole cleaner.

really really excellent.

I'm totally down. We can high five over the bathroom stall dividers.

they might be floor to ceiling dividers. At the very least, I'm fairly sure they extend all the way to the floor. Part of the reason I like it so much.

Le Bernardin has nice digs, but there is a major flaw. Their urinals are floor length, and at the bottom they put a bunch of ice down there. I don't know why, maybe because it's a cool effect, but naturally curious people like me are going to go "hey! I'm going to pee on that". But of course, jagged angles and full stream force means the pee will be directed everywhere and I got my own pee all over my trousers and shoes.

Really? BITD, lots of bars did this whenever they switched out their ice form behind the bar (new ice in, old ice goes to the stand-up urinals). Maybe it depends on the size of the cubes, but my impression was that the warm pee stream instantly melts down any sharp jagged deflecting angles, and in fact minimizes splash-back.

The best urinals are the ones at the Old Town. Can't find a good pic but they are essentially walk-ins...

My neighbor owns Old Town. I will let him know you appreciate the facilities.

Meagher?

There's a sad-looking guy the bartenders used to call the mis-manager. If you look up the WSJ article on the cenntennial celebration of the urinals and look at the picture w/ the balloons & flowers on the urinals you'll see him in the mirror...
