Stronghold Jeans?

Once again, I am drawn to inquire from the bottomless font of StyleForum knowledge.

Was wandering around Chicago yesterday, and stumbled across some Stronghold selvage jeans, presumably a one-wash, non-distressed piece for $105 (marked down from 250). The fit was quite a bit looser than I was hoping for (currently eyeing some RRL Slim Fit Bootcuts), but was curious as to the quality of said jeans. Seemed pretty nice, but quite frankly, I have no idea ultimately about these things.

Anybody this row? This row? Maybe LA Guy is having information?

the quality of stronghold denim is incredible, we carry them at denim bar and to pick them up for $105 is a steal. i dont wear them because of the fit but they are truely a great jean.

Hmmm.... Basically because of the high word of mouth re: Denim Bar, I guess I'll take your word on it and go for both then, unless someone has something negative to say about Stronghold. They certainly didn't seem to like it at SuperFuture, based on my searches, but I'm more than eager to hear what anyone else has to say here.

I know nothing about Stronghold jeans, but you mentioned that you are eyeing RRL slim-bootcuts, and I have to tell you, I have a pair and thy are probably my favorite and most flattering jeans.

I think that they are decent jeans. The construction is good but not distinguished, and the denim is not particularly distinctive, neither in color nor in texture, imo, but quite passable. The cut is not for me. But that's neither here nor there (imo, there are very few cuts that work for everyone ( though I would say that the RB6 and the Nudie Ralph come close) For $100 or so, I'd buy them if they fit me (they don't), but I wouldn't be tempted by them at retail.

ay fucker you comin this weekend or what

i've tried their denim at their main store in abboy-kinney street near venice in Los Angeles. i didnt' like the straightleg cuts because they were generally a little too neutral and non-flattering. i didnt' bother with the bootleg because the denim was too light and was heavily washed. the stovepipe, which is their loose cut with a cinch back wasn't too impressive either. i felt like i was wearing thick pj's.

pretty much what LA Guy said. I don't think they are anything special. the denim quality is good but lacks character. for 250 bucks, i would recommend something else as that amount of money creates a lot of options at your disposal. for 105, it's a complete steal.

'Him' in Wicker Park/Bucktown on N. Damen near Milwaukee/Damen/North.

Really not a lot there I saw that seemed particularly interesting in terms of either denim or clothing brands, but I spotted these on the table and they seemed nice enough.

Well gents, I bit the bullet and bought the jeans, but the ones they had in my size were waaaay too loose (even looser than my SC1947s), so I sized down about 2-3 inches to a 31x?? and oddly enough, it ended up being like a slim straight leg. Assuming the waist stretches out an inch or so, it's a pretty nice fit.

A bit of grave dig seeing as how no one here seems to talk about Stronghold, but I just posted this at SUFU and thought you all might be interested to see the Stronghold Slims. I really like these jeans and I would beg to differ with LA Guy on the quality of their denim re: texture. I think they are a rather mesmerizing jean in person; the horizontal striations give it a quasi-cross hatch feel. It was difficult for me to capture, but I'm crap with cameras.

This is pretty much the only wear on these besides a little falling on the combs. It's from the tube of Burt's Bees I keep in all of my coin pockets.

need to get them hemmed and to wear them a little harder so they mold to me a bit. They are a size 32 and I'm a pretty true 34.

As a side note, Bill (manager at the Stronghold store and a very nice guy) said that they would add suspender buttons and hem them for free, AND it would be done by the same guy who made the jeans in the first place. Very cool.

Ressurecting this since Context has picked them up and would love to know people's current experience with Stronghold. An online tidbit I picked up from the promo site for a documentary film called 'Blue Planet' "1902: The patent on the rivets expires. [Levis] competitors appear and thrive. Each region has a local jeansmaker: Carhartt rules Detroit, OshKosh B’Gosh is in Wisconsin, Boss Of the Road, Can’t Bust’Em, and Stronghold clothe Los Angeles, and Blue Bell (later to be Wrangler) opens in North Carolina. " Interested how the new Stronghold is related to the original.
