Does A Beard Leave You More Susceptible To Illness

Growing my beard again...my wife made a comment that everytime I have a longer beard I get sick. One of her friends also commented that she used to work for an allergist who felt allergens are trapped longer in facial hair and can lead to illness. Would the doctors on board be able to comment on this? Is my wife just trying to get me to shave?

I have been sick a few times this year and last, much more than usual, but I put it off to having two children in the house, the responsibility of them as well, but it does correspond to the times I've let my beard grow out. Any truth to this? Google was of little to no help.

Your beard is causing an imbalance in your humours

When I studied medical stats the lecturer said that people with beards get more heart attacks. Personally I think its probably a symptom of taking more care over your appearance and health (the two normally seem to be related). People with better teeth also have better general health, but that's probably more from not smoking and not eating too much chocolate rather than cleaning your teeth directly causes better general health.

Just imagine how bacteria would thrive on your mustache. It's warm and most likely slightly damp from exhaling. I think a case could be made.

Started growing a beard on 6/15, can't believe it's been almost a month...

Haven't gotten sick yet though.

I'd like to change it but I never have a free minute when I'm at home to do so and no ability to resize images when I'm not.

I eat tons of protein.

Its probably just coincidence, and the fact that my two kids are germ harborers, but seem to be immune to everything (thank God).

I've mine since May, hoping to keep it going through the summer and into the beginning of next Spring. Though the fact that I'm contemplating buzzing it does not look good.

Its not totally implausible, but as an individual, deciding whether to shave or not, any increased risk would be so miniscule as to be completely overwhelmed by other deciding factors, such as aesthetics, or whether your wife is dropping hints or not.

If you don't want to get sick, wash your hands more regularly, don't touch your face or mucous membranes, and don't let people cough on you.

Personally, I get ingrown hairs if I shave regularly, so fuck that.

Your title had me hoping that the thread would be about something like this:
