corneliani flat front suit? STP?

I was at NM Last call this morning and saw an incredible corneliani suit. The jacket felt like a dream!

Unfortunely the pants were very puffy around the hip, and made me look incredibly wide --I am guessing it was because of the double pleat suit pants.

Does Corneliani make a flat front suit? Has anyone else had this problem with the double pleat? All the Corneliani suits on STP seem to have at least double pleats (or reverse doubles), so I was wondering if I only had this problem, since there are so many posts that are pro-corneliani on this website.

Thanks.

I have Corneliani with both single pleats and flat fronts though I have seen and tried on some double-pleated ones. The styles I have experience with are usually pretty slim in the leg irrespective of the pleats but I can't speak for the models carried by NM. Taking trousers in at the seam to make them more tapered is a relatively easy alteration for a competent tailor.

Thanks. In terms of fit and quality would you pick a canali or a corneliani?

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on this suit:

But its listed as "double reverse pleat" -- has anyone had any experience with Corneliani's Double reverse pleat? I am still worried i'll end up looking like I have a wide waist like I did when I tried on the double pleated pant at NM Last call. (even though I don't have a wide waist at all) -

I bought that identical suit last week. I hate the double pleats. It seems like there's a ton of extra fabric in front, and if you have to hike the pants up to your belly button (where they're supposed to be worn) to have them look good. I can imagine being comfortable in this suit only if I keep the jacket on. The pants aren't baggy, either. They are pretty slim, which makes the pleats even more annoying.

The jacket is just great, but I haven't decided whether I'm going to keep the thing or not.

I only paid 450 for the suit as well. You have a 20% off code, right?

BillieBob you are absolutely correct!! I had the same exact experience when trying on the double pleats at NM Last Call yesterday. I had to pull the pants up to my belly button in order for the pants to look good. There is just too much fabric for no apparent reason.

The Jacket I tried on fit perfectly -- so it was a tough call, but I decided to walk away from the suit.

Now I see it on STP for cheaper. I am still not sure if I should pay the 450 (yes I have the coupon), or just look for the single pleat, or flat front corneliani and wait it out. Have you tried on any single pleat/flat front Corneliani suits? Do the pants fit better (i.e. no extra fabric)?

I have definitely narrowed "my next suit" purchase down to either corneliani or canali - are there other sources to get either of these two at a discount?

I know you've narrowed your search already, but have you tried a Polo suit? The construction isn't as good as the Canali or Cornaliani, but they are often available iwth flat front pants (though rarely in black). They fit much the same as the corneliani (corneliani makes Polo realph lauren suits). The Polo shoulder is a little softer as well. I'd jump on a Polo suit in my size in charcoal, but they're rare in 42R on ebay NWT.

I'll take a look. Yes I've read on this forum, that Corneliani makes the Blue Label for polo.

Just as a general question, how often does STP add new suits. They seem to have quite a few Corneliani's right now, so if I wanted a couple months is there a good chance they'll add some new styles?

have you tried a corneliani with single pleats? Do those fit any better?

I don't recall if STP has any corneliani non-pleated. I can't answer the stock turnover question either. I would expect new stock every 2 months, but don't have much to back that up. Good luck..

I olny own the polo suits by cornelliani, but have both pleated (polo II) and the european model with a flat front. FF is a longer jacket and much more flattering fit. recomend it if you can avoid the pleated version.

It might be interesting if someone were to actually contact yoox, stp or bluefly and request sourcing more of these?

I own 4 corneliani suits all with double pleats. Cut slim through the pants and they don't make me look bigger orlook baggy. They should be worn at the waist not the hips. Thats probibly your problem. Also once they are fitted correctly they will make you look a lot better. The problem with flat front pants is they pull on the pockets making them open slightly which i think looks worse.

I just bought one on Friday. What / where can I get the 20% off code? Is there any way I can apply it retroactively?

I also much prefer flat-front trousers, though every tailor I speak with tells me I should be wearing pleats because they can make thin guys look heavier.

I bought a Canali suit with flat front pants at a Saks Off Fifth last Summer. You might try them, but of course their stock is subject to chance. I also bought a a pair of Canali trousers with single pleats that look OK. demeis is right, though. Pleated trousers should be worn at the waist, not on the hips. Once I learned this, I found pleated trousers tolerable and actually started buying a few suits with pleated trousers, since flat fronts are so hard to find.
