I was in the jeweler a week or so getting my wife a new watch and some guy had a 1957 calatrava he inherited from his grandfather. It was one of the prettiest watches I've seen, but definitely small by today's standards.

Govberg? They should actually discount IWCs nicely if you bargain hard. Obviously, it's a little tougher on the most sought after pieces (big pilot and port auto w/ black face). I like the new ss port auto with the gold hands and numbers.

patek and lange seem too old for me. even if i had the $ for the entry level pieces i might go IWC/ JLC instead. Dunno why. Just brand image i guess.

Yup, I have a good contact there and have bought several watches from them.

IWC is cracking down HARD on discounts though. They are sending so many of their watches these days to China and less to the US, hence smaller supply and less discounts. IWC used to pretty much be a 30% discount across the board. 30 off can still be had, but truth be told 20% on IWC these days is good.
