Lennon-McCartney-Harrison had incredible harmonies; that was a big factor in the Beatles' sound. Amazing how they went from "She Loves You" to "Helter Skelter" in less than 5 years. Not the greatest musicians (although McCartney was a terrific bass player). Their catalog of songs stands the test of time. Half a century later and they still sell more CDs than most current bands.

No one covers them like Cocker. With a Little Help is easily the best Beatles cover ever.

What's funny is that, in their pursuit of R&B 'smoothness', these covers try to smooth over the musical rough edges and jarring elements in the Beales' music, but this in turn makes their lyrics (the faithlessness evinced in the bridge to 'Something', the lyrical incongruities in the verses of 'Strawberry Fields') seem even more jarringly out of place.
