Razors and shaving spots

So...I had been using a DE razor for a good 6-7 months or so. Meh. I found my shave was no cleaner than with a good safety razor but the brushes and creams are a pure joy. I have good facial hair so there still tends to be a shadow either way. But I cut myself good whilst using the DE razor recently, and decided it wasn't worth the hassle, so I bought myself a new safety razor, Mach 3 Turbo (razors have ridiculous names) and on my first using I came out with a good number of 'spots' they were gone within a couple of days but undesirable nonetheless. And in hindsight I wasn't getting them with the DE.

So, is this because it's a new razor or is it an inherent problem with safety razors?

Should I return to the DE....

Use the DE razor. How did you cut yourself bad with a DE? You should be applying little to no pressure. I've been using a DE for over 2 years now and would never go back.

For me a good shave with a safety razor is about the same as a bad shave with a DE razor. Going away for a few months soon though so getting an electric one.

I didn't apply the shaving cream well enough. Besides that though, I more often fail to get a consistent shave with the DE i.e. missing parts here and there...if I can prevent the spots I get with the safety then I'd stick with it.

I'd say try it for a couple of weeks as there seems to be a period of time that you face has to adjust to the different stimuli.

Personally, I never had issues with razor burn when using Mach 3's but more probably that's becuase the shave was not that close.

I now use a straight or cut throat razor and man does that produce a close comfortable shave. No burn and don't ask my the physics of why but lasts a lot longer than the shave of the Mach 3 or DE.
