I am kinda new to this game but I think that clothing needs to be taken into context. I think NYRs outfit is fine for teaching middle(?) school where he is likely known as the well dressed teacher who has the flair and whimsy to wear colorful unique items. This would obviously be in poor taste at a funeral, a business meeting, or a law firm.

Another point is weather. I do think people in the spring/summer go overboard especially when the sun melts away the snow and the first warm days emerge. As a Michigander, I always found it somewhat humorous to see people bust out the shorts and tank tops when it hit 70 in March but then complain that 70 is freezing when we have 90+ degree humid days. Point is, people go overboard when the temperatures change and people want to make a statement that IT IS SUMMER!

That being said, I think NYRs outfit would benefit from shoes that are either darker brown or have some element of white in them. Also, a solid shirt would likely look best or a navy blazer or a polo shirt. Gingham strikes as more "country" and the bright orange pants scream tropical resort. I think HF's recommendation is apt here.

As for Gdl's critique and recommendation, I think it is well founded. I respect many of the posters here and sort of look up to you guys for advice and insight. I understand it can be tiresome to belabor certain points or make the same statements over and over,. However, one thing I would find helpful is that when one makes a critique or statement, do not be cryptic. Show us an example or point out something in a respectful, tasteful way on how someone can improve or what you don't like about something (and Gd;l, I am not referring specifically to you, you have made some great, honest critiques to me and others in the last few weeks and you are very helpful). I just get annoyed when someone says "This sucks" but offers no critique or suggestion to improve.

Again this is all from a "noobs" perspective.

Speaking of bright colors on sunny days, I didn't have meetings today so I wore an orange Charvet knit tie that I picked up at NM while in DC last week. It was a bit uncharacteristic of me to wear such a bright tie, but I liked it a lot, and it's something I'll wear infrequently.

Wait... I thought everyone on SF was Asian ?
peepwall[1].gif

Not me, I've been in college since 2004 and still don't have my bachelors.

DUH Didn't you know Nigeria is in Asia? right under Indonesia

SRSLY?

I still like my tie.

If you like that tie you're going to LOVE the ones I'm selling on ebay, and you can't beat the price, 20 USD a pound.

I'm extremely color blind [and] have a very difficult time picking apart shades of colors and putting them together

I wish I had an excuse. I just suck at colors so I stick to brown.

. People bite their tongues with my fits a lot too, because I am hilarious, violent, freakishly handsome, and without peer intellectually - a man among boys, so to speak.

And you're the only forumite who can grow his own tweed.

This is the origin of the controversy? Seriously?

I know its springtime, and the world is getting feisty. I just think its telling that our reaction on SF is putting on orange or red pants, arguing if they're orange or red, then calling eachother marsupialed, while the rest of the human race is taking their north face jackets off, putting their ed hardy "dress shirts" on, and boning.

Jus saying.

Sorry about the 90's-esque collar. I did use colar stays. This would have been better with a button-down-collar shirt, but I don't have many of those.

You're opinion is fine, but its shithead comments like your's that don't "help" anyone, or provide any useful role in prompting discussion here, other than name calling (see "shithead" comment). Its this passive aggressive bullshit that irks me really, you get people who do care that think, "Oh ****, is he talking about me?" and chase them. Speak your mind man. And you're right, I walk to and from work through a blue collar Conservative Brooklyn neighborhood, so pretty boys with passive aggressive issues on the computer are the least of my worries. I just think it would be nice if people could just (and no, not just you, mind you) say what they really think. This is the kind of **** that gets you a busted nose and bloody lip irl...
i respect that you think the pants suck. I like em. I also think in my context (working with 13-15 year old street kids) it helps.

I don´t want to get in the way of all your sheep, "MC sucks" "No, SW&D sucks more" discussion, but I feel compelled to point this out. I´m not a native speaker since I don´t live in an english speaking country, and I´ve never made that horrid mistake.. Yes, the one in bold. How can someone put "you are" instead of "your". Aren´t you a teacher NYR? Also, "your´s" doesn´t exist, I believe.

^ I didn´t feel like talking about bright pants, hence my totally unrelated post.

NYR - I made a general statement that I think is valid, and at least worthy of a conversation. I do strongly feel that there is less care taken by men in their outfit when it's summer and that they use it as an excuse - I wish that wasn't the case.

Part of the problem, at least where I live, is that in the summer it is so hot that all anyone wants to wear is a thin tee or polo. I don't like wearing expensive stuff either, because 5 minutes outside in 98 degrees Fahrenheit and 100% humidity causes extreme sweating.

I do agree that sloppiness rises with the temperature.
