Especially considering like 50%-60% of SW&D is guys who (try) to dress like you and wear good quality jeans, some suede boots or Aldens, a white button down and some rustic looking sweater, making them the more casual and rural equivalent of MC guys. I mean half the outfits gnatty post could be SW&D.

You're absolutely deluded if you think that SW&D is not an acquired taste.

right, but the point is, everything ace wore has an echo in that fit.

Not everything in SW&D has that same echo. Goth ninja for example.

I'm wearing light blue chinos, neither too tight, nor too big. My shoes have contrasting laces, but that is hardly objectively ugly. I find them just fine. My shirt is very casual, as is the short, hemp/cotton unstructured and unlined patch-pocket blazer, as are the pants and the shoes. Nothing's clashing. Normal people wear a similar version of that when they dress up, except for maybe the choice of pants color. And they usually don't have a pocket square, but mine is white and quite discreet. Overall, people perceive this as dressed up within the norms of this society. Certainly, I wasn't out of place when I went to an Organ Concert/Silent Movie afterwards.

do you even read SW&D? how many goth ninja posters are there? and you realize that most goth ninja is just tight jeans, drapey top and nice boots? seems that has an 'echo' with what most people wear... jeans, boots and a tshirt.

normal people do not wear what you wear. normal people do not own chinos in that shade, a pocket square, or would ever have that style of dress shoe with contrasting laces (which is literally the definition of sprez). and your entire argument seems to be "I think I dress well and generally people don't notice, therefore I'm right!"

but who gives a shit.. this entire argument is asinine anyway. the entire premise of this site is that most people have shitty opinions about clothes and dress like garbage. why is popular perception suddenly the arbiter of good taste?

Yes, if you think about it. laugh.gif

I do attend a lot of classical music concerts / theatre productions and other shows. Dressing in a suit has become quite logical for me. Wearing a casual jacket on a night out doesn't seem as ludicrous as it was before. You should know, you live in LA too.

the pretentiousness/self absorption in this reply is insane. do you seriously think that your experience attending classical music concerts and theatre productions is relevant to a majority of people in the world?

Yes they do. I see people wearing colored pants and blazers all the time. I even see pocket squares every now and then. I'm not sure where you live, but maybe you should move to a more civilized place.

I was talking to SVB, not you. But yes, going to events that require suits and ties actually allows you to wear *gasp* suits, ties and pocket squares. It's what grown-ups do.

yes you're right, everyone in the US appreciates ugly antiqued shoes and pocket squares, but when they see someone wearing tight jeans and boots they recoil in horror. the whole of the country is LA writ large.

Note how I never said all of SW&D dresses in a weird way or that MC is in any way pure perfection? I think you need to chill out a bit. I like many SW&D fits and I like many MC fits. The more outrageous SW&D fits are the ones that strike me as odd and rebellious.

Let's say someone attends a lot of Rock shows and art openings, would you say your outfit is always the one that will be favoured over some SW&D one? There isn't ONE social milieu and set of standards, this died with top down men's fashion (everyone in suits, we know your social class by the make and other assorted cues). Now we got tribes, you're in one, some are in others. Some of the SW&D styles (not the majority) are more out there but we're talking about a minority who probably hang out with a different crowd and has a different lifestyle than yours. Stylistic choices don't emerge in a vacuum. Of course with the internet there is a probability the milieu pushing for a certain look is only virtual but at some point people can't help but couple it with "real life" cues.

In the last few months I've dressed very casual mc (dress shirt+knits+blazer+jeans+boots) and some friends were like WTF is that gentleman shit! Today I'm wearing some dior homme waxed jeans, an apc black/grey henley, some beatup margiela GATs and a Lanvin tuxedo and it's back to "normal".
