You say they're linen Butch, but how do we know they're not really Jorts?

Its really the whole thing. It looks like a summer outfit dressed up for winter. You've got a sweater-looking shirt, casual boots, and then pair them with what look like jorts. Its like dad-casual gone awry.

If you were going to pair the shirt and boots you'd need casual pents. If you were going to try the jorts, you'd need a much more casual looking shirt - maybe a short sleeve polo, and a pair of casual sneakers or flip flops.

Just looked through quite a few pages of this thread and really like what I see! I am really jealous of your guys' sense of style. Since a young age, I have always liked fashion and looking nice. But when it comes to actually putting together a outfit or knowing what goes with what, I am terrible. 

 

I am also pretty weird in the fact that I really like both Mens Classic and SW&D. But, as a member here stated in my intro thread, I should choose one and stick to it. Otherwise it looks like I am always wearing a costume. I would like to eventually learn to be able to combine both of them. But not all the time. Mainly for casual days.

 

So, I am going to continue lurking this thread daily and asking style questions when I have them, if you gentlemen don't mind. PiCcolocV has already been a huge help through some PM's back and forth.

P.S. to Hendrix: I REALLY like your sense of style. But I also REALLY REALLY like your name! I am a HUGE hendrix fan. I literally have to listen to him at least once a day. Never gets old either.

Cross post from SW&D. Had a some meetings today so wore a blazer and a tucked shirt.

 

I must confess that I don't get this critique at all. I guess as a critique of the picture it might make sense, but of the actual clothes? Not so much. The top is essentially a heavy T-shirt and the shorts are linen.

 

FWIW SB I quite like the pairing of the sweater with the shorts. I agree with others that the shoe was the wrong choice here. Maybe not a chukka but instead a loafer? Just spit-ballin my rather inexperienced thoughts on the matter.

 

Maybe some people feel long sleeves with shorts are an incongruous look, but I like it. 

Soccer man, SB? (Or just baseball - ).

I don't dislike this, but the pants are a little too long. Nice shoes, though.

I normally hate both unbuttoned DBs and suits with t-shirts, yet somehow this works for me.

Motorsports above all. Soccer above baseball. My boys love baseball, though, so I'm coaching the older one's team this spring. Otherwise, they play soccer year-round.

 

I love this. Although maybe it would look a little better with a light blue oxford shirt or a blue vertically striped shirt? As it stands now I think the pants and the shirt and the pocket square are a bit much red. This would make the pocket square stand out a bit more, and I love that square.

 

Thanks. It could be that I was standing on a slight gradient. As in the pic below I am on a flat surface and they look fine to me.

Black and white checkerboard being a difficult match aside, the whole monochromatic thing you've got going there gets completely blown up with the tan shoes. You've got to go with something that fits into the black/grey match spectrum - black. Or maybe even a #8 shell or really deep burgundy. But to veer that far off course to tan is a really weird look.

well the clothes in and of themselves are fine (although I'm PRO jort-burning with fire). its the combination in the picture that's odd looking. I know they're linen and its a heavy t-shirt. It still looks like jorts and a sweater.
