my office is always "casual" in the sense that suits are pretty rare unless you're meeting/presenting with a customer

There is an argument to be made regarding the judgment of people like Liam or you who don't know any of the codes of the styles of SW&D and do not have a trained eye to appreciate what is good or bad about them.

That's a bit elitist. I would be willing to bet that if you put together a lookbook of highly praised SW&D fits and had focus groups comment on them the reactions would be mostly negative or confused.

Fuuma rings true here - it's a different mentality than that found in MC. Rules are just different, and there's not real way to compare those rules to the other's paradigm without things blatantly not computing. They're just different beasts.

Odds are that many a MCer would be scoffed outside of SF for wearing pocketsquares, trying to incorporate and blend too many patterns, etc. Every subfora is keyed in on different details, fits, silhouettes, and generally the WAYWT photos are tailored to those sensitivities. Both can verge on wacky outside of their contexts.

I've personally never understood nor really admired the much-hyped "goth/ninja" look, but hey - it's there. People can do it well, and people can do it poorly according to the look's "rules." I don't totally care for it, nor understand it's "rules," and I therefore can't make a true call on it beyond that of a bystander.

This is my first photo post. Obviously I need to learn to take a better self-photo.

I have two questions:

1) I realize that this photo makes a fit commentary on the jacket rather difficult. Nevertheless, i'll ask. This is a jacket I bought about six months ago and is my first proper sports jacket. This is off the rack; no alterations yet. This is the best of about 20 photos taken. My shirt sleeves actually do extend about 3/4 of an inch when standing normally. What looks like a pull at the button is not present when my arms are both at my side, but does emerge when I reach. I'll ask this again at a later date when I manage a better photo. So, I suppose the question is, are there any glaring fit issues that even this bad photo illustrates?

2) I am having difficulty determining what to wear with this jacket. The current outfit sees it paired with a light blue shirt and a pair of darker blue jeans. i am including a close up of the fabric. It is 40% wool, 35% silk and 25 % linen. The texture to the fabric is fairly apparent. I really don't know what color shirt other than light blue would work with this (and maybe not even that). Would a patterned shirt work at all? If so, what patterns/colors? Would the texture in this jacket make a tie with similar texture appropriate (something woven)? Maybe a red tie picking up the red in the fabric? Maybe brown? Could I wear an OCBD and jeans with this jacket as a casual outfit, or would the OCBD look inappropriate?
