Great look @Gerry Nelson

I'm envious of the trousers but surely the very low contrast between them and the sweater is going to look odd if you remove the jacket?

There are a lot of ways to wear jeans and sweaters and my $0.02 would be that this jacket would be coherent with some ways and not others. Would be great with slim denim and a pair of derby boots on a slimmish last. The hidden placket and relatively sleek overall look (judging from just a single pic...) would be a tougher match with more casual fits unless you were good at pulling that mixed style off. SW&D is going to be a better place to ask about how to hit that look.

Thanks for the advice gents.

I actually this exact car coat in a plain navy cashmere/wool already. Tried it last night over a blue ocbd, bottle green cashmere sweater and various trousers. It looked great with flannels, relatively ok with very dark denim and terrible with more casual denim. I'll go ahead and order the tweed variant and see how the lighter colour and coarser weave/texture matches with jeans. If it doesn't work out, well, I have a vintage loden arriving any day now from eBay that might be what I'm after.

Ah, but I have a cunning trick - I don't remove the jacket :)

FWIW, I'm wearing a band collar denim shirt underneath so I would likely just remove the polo-neck jumper if I had to take the jacket off.

two versions, two songs :

Without you sunshine
The world is such a lonely place
And without you sunshine
My heart was filled with an empty space

Bad boys, bad boys whatcha gonna do?
Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?

lol, easy now, it didn't cause me any displeasure at all; I just wouldn't wear it myself without something over it to add color/combat the boxiness..

From this past weekend. We actually had one of those legendary Smoky Mountain black bears on the deck right where I am sitting and given we were on our hammock at the end of the deck at the time, it made for some exciting times, lol.. Yeah, I don't do coats and all that when I'm in the woods..
