I didn't think he was specifically talking about my picture, and anyway I like fuller trousers nowadays when wearing classic menswear stuff, but I like slim/skinnier cuts with denim, and other streetwear stuff (some stretchy stuff, cargo pants). I also really like the yohji stuff and I've posted a few fits with hakama and the like.
It's all context and the silhouette you're trying to achieve, I think. It's fair to say that if you're going for a trad look with suit or coat and tie those classic proportions are probably more appropriate unless you have a specific reason to deviate, but those norms are applicable specifically to those contexts and looks and silhouettes. For instance, you're not going to apply those aesthetic preferences directly onto Meiji Era Japan, or Georgian England, or Ancient Egypt, you know, and it'd be pretty ignorant to say that those cultures are innately less masculine just because masculinity there doesn't manifest the same way it has in late 19th century onwards western society.
