Each to his own. My style is also naturally more casual than the typical SF poster in this thread, but IMO expressing your personality and dressing appropriately for your environment aren't mutually exclusive. I'm not uncomfortable wearing a sport coat with jeans, a tuxedo, board shorts, etc...but those outfits are not interchangeable for all environments.
Agreed. Each one of us draws the line at a different spot for expressing oneself and dressing appropriately for the environment. As you say, "Each to his own".

My perspective is vive la différence. It makes life interesting.

I will agree with this. I understand the importance to dress appropriately and to relate with your environment.

My point is don't feel forced to blend with the surroundings, to assimilate your clothing to that of other people. Don't dress down to look as others do, be bold and genuinely yourself, don't be afraid to stand out.

If all other people wear sweatpants, will you do as well? By no reason.

Also very important to me is coherence: an outfit has to be cohesive and show a balanced level of formality.
I don't like and don't wear jeans (never did) and whenever I see a tailored jacket paired with jeans, it always looks off to me (the nicer and better cut the jacket the worse the combination looks).

With the same sentiment, I would never wear sneakers or cowboy boots with tailoring and a baseball cap (a la Simon Crompton) does look absolutely off and out of place in a classic attire.

Totally agree! Expressing oneself sartorially is (at least partly) why we are here.

DG - "Express yourself! Don't be afraid to stand out! Individuality!

DG, also - "Be prepared to hear my dogmatic opinions about how you should dress all the time"

We are here for discussing what looks good and what doesn't. I never assume to teach anything anyone, I just express my genuine opinion.

I agree regarding not feeling the need to blend in. My point was more in the vein of not trying to dress too many levels of formality above everyone else around me when in certain environments... particularly the office and work related functions where it's important for me to have rapport with people... while at the same time wanting to express my love of odd jackets more often.

Anyway, I promise my next post will be a fit pic.

We already addressed the topic, I didn't change my opinion: we are here in a public forum to discuss about style and everybody is entitled to express his opinion, no matter whether solicited or not
The problem is that nobody cares but you about your opinion, and that you have zero credibility as you never posted a fit pic. As you said it is not the first time it is mentioned, the problem is that you don’t seem to understand and that SF is flooded with your unsolicited, and above all uninteresting, comments.
