I'm a big John le Carre fan, and the George Smiley/Karla novels are truly his masterpiece. The 1979 BBC miniseries with Alec Guinness as Smiley is absolutely brilliant. The new film, slated for September 16, 2011, boasts a pretty solid cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Mark Strong, John Hurt). I will definitely be going to see this, but I'm worried that they have upped the amount of action in the story to appease modern audiences.
