So far every offer I've made that's been accepted, I've paid for. Maybe just a string of bad luck?

It happens to everyone. However, the B&S is still 10X better than Ebay for both the seller & buyer.

QFT. **** paying 15% to ebay/paypal......on the other hand i was moving stuff way quicker on ebay.....i guess just because its a broader audience...

havent had people flake on offers, but definitely had some low-ball offers,

should there be a rule of how low of an offer to give, because i feel that 10% less is usually ok but some people push for way more than 10%, its just rude imo.

I recently was exchanging messages with a member about a pair of shoes and he asked me to give him a price im willing to pay, my price was significantly lower than what he was asking for so i said to the guy that i'd rather not insult him and passed on the shoes. I just feel like its sometimes etiquette to not low-ball others.

I've received my fair share of low-ballers too LOL

"Sorry to low-ball, but will you sell me that ETRO suit for 40 dollars?"

CS,

One thing that I'm sure is happening is that they see you listing your "finds" on the Thrift thread and realize that you dont have the $ into the item. So they figure they can either lo ball yah, or even ignore their offer since you got the item "for a steal" in most instances. I would bet that the mainstream items are the ones you are getting these type of bids.

I think since your audience is limited here, my suggestion would be the dreaded Ebay...just do a buy it now with a best offer on a few items and see if that works....

+1 It's just part of the B&S dynamic. I wish it didn't happen, because it's really inefficient when you're selling something (if you want to shift an item, but can't, because you're waiting on someone with whom you've agreed a price) but as the man says, it's still way better than eBay! Most transactions are pretty smooth. One way to manage the issue (assuming you've now agreed the price, given your paypal address and are just waiting for payment) is to give the guy 36-48hrs to pay you, and then send them a polite PM requesting clarification of what's going on. If they don't reply within a further 24hrs (assuming they've been online during this time; check their profile to be sure), then send then a further PM saying that the item will be back for general sale and the agreed price between the two of you no longer holds. This at least narrows the delay to under 4 days, and gives both you and the potential buyer clarity, and less potential for "misunderstandings".

I'm guilty of low-balling if it is somehting that I don't really want but may be interested in. Surprisingly, the seller usually takes it. When sellers take lowball offers, it encourages people like me to keep making them. You shouldn't be offended by it.

On the other hand, I have paid every time I made an offer and the seller accepted it. The only time I didn't was when the seller came back 2 weeks later and said that he would take my offer (after initially refusing it). I had already purchased something else and I politely told him so.

Some deals I got through low-balling:
A Harris Tweed overcoat for $70
Three pairs of EG NIB for $1,200
Two NWT HF sportcoats for $400
A NWT TF SC and a NWT Kiton tux for $1600

In the end, it seems low-balling pays.
