All this time I didn't know it was a no no to wear a belt with a 3 piece.  Growing up is such a learning curve :bigstar:

I think that the important thing is for the belt not to show.  I am wearing a belt in all the the pictures that I posted, but (I hope) that the belt doesn't show.

I don't like wearing suspenders.  I tried wearing suspenders once many years ago. It's not something that I would care to try again.  I don't like side adjusters, either.

I have one pair of pants with side adjusters, but the side adjusters don't seem to work as well (for me) as a belt.

If you are afraid that the belt might create a bulge under your vest, wear a ribbon belt and slide the fastening around to the side of your pants.

Agreed - I'm wearing a belt in the photo also - not that anyone would know.  If your belt doesn't have a clunky buckle, it shouldn't bulge at all.

I'd never wear a belt with a suit. Side adjusters always, maybe with suspenders as well.

I have rapidly started transitioning to the same thing. It's great.

Side adjusters only really work on high(er) waisted pants, though. That's an important thing to consider.

And they don't really work for all body types, either.

A low waisted trouser with a vest is just incongruous.

I was gonna say, low waisted trousers rarely work in any scenario :D

I suppose they are ok on jeans or women.

It's a terrible look, but I've seen it a lot over the last year or so. I cringe when I see it.

A three piece suit done well (i.e., without a belt or low waisted trousers) is a sight to behold, as Jean Patou shows in a picture from the late 1910s.

3 piece suits don't sit well with the current popular trend of slim lapels and slim ties. that being said: done right, fashion is always about you. there is a good article out there on pulling off "looks"
