Ralph Lauren's Car Collection in Paris

Thread Starter
Just got back from Paris.

One of the highlights was a visit to the Decorative Arts Museum for a look at some of Ralph Lauren's cars. Some amazing vehicles. My favorite was an old Ferrari Testa Rossa. If you're in Paris and you like cars, I'd highly recommend it. (On a mostly unrelated note, I saw a while Lambo Reventon tooling around the Paris streets while we were there. Very cool vehicle.)

My faves are the 550 spyder and the Ferrari GTO

I saw them when they had them on display in Boston. One advantage of being short is that Ralph can fit into all these cars. The photo of the F1 LM does not do the 'McLaren Orange' paint justice. It has to been seen IRL. Also, I personally like the XK140 Roadster more than the XK120:

+ 1 million haha sooo nice

The XK is worth like a tenth of any of those other cars, among the 'cheapest' ones...

The 250 GTO is my favorite. My head just spins at how you can make an old car like those Bentley's look so crisp. A ton of reproduction?

They're nice, for sure; however, for my preference, they're all over-restored. I like my classic cars to be classic. Older race cars usually left the factory with shitty paint, welding marks, uneven panels and gaps, and other little nuances that let you know it was made by people instead of some machine. Some popped stitching in the leather seats, a little peeling paint, or some tire or paint marks on the 250LM or D-type from rubbing fenders with other cars on the race track makes such vehicles seem more real. These all have been sterilized too much for my taste. See the Simeone Foundation Museum in Philly for a great collection of race cars that still bear the marks of their trade.

It's the pre-Ferrari Ferrari.

Side note, I am really surprised that RL doesn't own one of my, and frankly one of the most beautiful cars ever made:

So....does he actually drive any of these?

Someone needs to make a high-performance straight 8 or a straight 10 again and slap it into a long-nose car for modern production.
