The American Friend

Last night I saw the Wim Wenders classic, The American Friend (1977)
A great film I haven't seen for the last 30 years. It stars the
late Dennis Hopper and the iconic German language actor Bruno Ganz.
Also a window into late 70s style.

A great film. You should check out The Third Man with Joseph Cotten and Orson Welles, another classic, and based on the same novel.

Another great film classic.
However based on different novels:

The Third Man by Graham Greene

Ripley's Game by Patricia Highsmith

You're absolutely right. Brain freeze on my part. Two great films featuring "friends" who are anything but.
