Agreed, protein powders are mostly artificial and therefore not a natural means of attaining one's source of protein. However, as a supplement to an otherwise nutritious diet, it is a great (and cost effective) alternative. If you figure 25-30 grams of protein in a scoop of powder to cost about $1.25 for a good quality powder, it's much cheaper than buying chicken breasts. With egg whites it's a bit of a push. Buy the liquid kind, who knows what else you're getting - it's processed one way or another. Via eggs themselves, you end up spending extra $ if you want better eggs. I love eggs, but can only eat so many in a day without it getting repetitive. All in, if you supplement with a shake once a day (more importantly on workout days) then it is a solid, cost-effective means of "building body".
