US Necktie Manufacturing

I have searched far and wide for a high quality necktie manufacturer in the United States that will work with me on my design ideas and produce smaller lot sizes (100-200 per order) under my own private label. Outside of the many "custom necktie" providers who outsource to China and do mostly corporate logo neckties, can anybody direct me to a manufacturer in the United States?

There was a thread here on SF back in June 2009 but most responses listed brands that are made in the US (Brooks Brothers, Vineyard Vines, etc.) but I'm looking strictly for the manufacturer, not the private label itself. Does anybody know who produces the neckties for Vineyard Vines, Southern Proper or Southern Tide?

I've seen Brown & Church, Mountain & Sackett, etc. but looking for more options.

I remember reading about a factory in North Carolina. Not 100% on this.

As with most ties in the world, the raw silk are purchased in Asia, shipped to Italy for the prints, then assembled somewhere cheap, and packaged in the country to be sold to qualify for the "made in X". I don't think even "made in USA" ties have their true origin in the states. The point here is that a US made tie is 1. not likely to mean anything to consumer 2. will likely screw your profit margin. Still, I commend you on your effort.

all silk is of course from in Asia. it is from an Asian insect. I do not know what you want to pay, but I am sure that you could find a haberdasher or tailor who you could work with. I know that Drakes of London does bespoke ties. I am sure you can find small firms in the US who do similar work. Perhaps contact Brooks' Brothers management. They may be able to help you with who manufactures their ties.

Not sure if this is "shareable" info, but Saks makes a lot of their house brand ties in the USA, as does our own Ed for Panta.

You could try polyester first, in Australia there are only polyester tie manufacturers http://www.ensign.com.au/custom-ties.htm For silk try China http://yuhongwang.en.made-in-china.c...e-YZTIE1-.html Beware that there are companies in Hong Kong that act as agents for chinese factories (factories may speak little/no english) I would ask for $1 per tie.

It sounds like you are looking for a mill, not a tie manufacturer. The manufacturers do not design silks and they typically have a meager stick selection. Not sure what price range you are looking at, but if you want an English mill to make your design, you will have to commit to 50 yds of fabric (can be same design but different colorways) at about 60-70 a yard. Obviously, you can get the same thing done in China for a tenth of the price.

Can't speak for anyone but myself but my ties are entirely made here, in a union shop where the workers are treated probably better than most office workers. If there were any US mills where I could get silk, the raw material would be from here also. On your point 1, it does mean something to a lot of consumers, on point 2, you are 100% correct, expect to pay 2-3x per tie what you would overseas if you make them here.

Half a dozen of one, 6 of another.

I know of only one tie factory left in Manhattan.
the same one Ed uses.
there are a couple in brooklyn, and several in Long island city/queens.

I know of a couple in New Jersey, and I know of others around the country.

the tie contractors usually make a Liba tie. this is a machine made tie that looks like a hand made tie. we are not talking fancy hand folds.
these tie makers usually will supply trim and make only. You have to supply silk and your label.

there are still resources for silk in Italy and england as well as China.
there are agents for some of these mills in NYC.

I googled "Shirt Avenue Trade Show". Very impressive. 450 of the leading mills for shirtings and apparently also neckwear silk meeting in Milan. I can only dream of the pocket square material that one might find there as well

Sounds like my best bet would be to get my silk (probably from China) made with my designs and then work with a US manufacturer to take the raw materials and assemble the tie.

Shirtmaven--would you be willing to provide any of the names of those manufacturers in NY (or elsewhere in US) that you believe would work with me if I provided the materials myself. If I could connect with a few of them to discuss the process and pricing, that would be great. I will also definitely check out the Shirt Avenue Trade Show--looks like it happens in Sept and Feb and have been planning to get over to Milan and Como soon.

I've had several batches of ties made already and am looking for a heftier, higher quality than I've been getting from China. At this point everything, the printed silk pattern, the tipping, labels, and final assembled product have all been produced in China.

Shirtmaven - I would be interested in the names of those manufacturers as well. It is surprisingly difficult to find quality manufacturers who make ties. We have worked with a few people in NY who's work I have been unimpressed with, but it has been hard to find alternatives. This looks like an old post but I am hoping I can still get an answer from someone here.

There was a US company called Schoenfeld Neckware Corp (started around 1900) had some of its office and manufacturing in Seattle, WA area. This was sold to Paul Weiss and Paul Cohen in late 1980. May have seen austin reed or john weitz or elaan or brittsport ties these were some of the neckware SNC made and sold to department stores and speciality stores. Anyway In the 1980's SNC sold, became Mallory & Church corporation, www.malloryandchurch.com.

I used to make art for the the mill patterns for underside or inside that was sewn in the different ties brands, also was graphic designer of the fabric swatch sample booklets for the various brands. I visited the Seattle SNC manufacture and shipping facility several times. There were many people at rows of sewing machine and big layout tables for fabric. After SNC sold things changed.

If Mallory & Church corporation are still a US manufacture of neckwear and vests, or are still in business today it is hard to determine.
