I have 2 weeks in September to go anywhere in the world - Page 2

I think Thailand would cover all the bases here. Bangkok for the city and the swing... Chiang Mai for the more outdoorsy hiking and sightseeing... then down south (Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui etc) for beaches and diving. Great food and sexy women all the way around! Much better than Singapore which is essentially just a city... HK is not much for a "vacation" unless you're ballin' tons of cash. I don't find either of them particularly interesting honestly. Even Vietnam is easy enough w/ respect to the language barrier. Try Hanoi and the coast... Saigon is a hell hole IMO. Plus, they are both cheap as hell and you could live like a king for the whole two weeks! Good luck and happy travels.

Cambodia , Vietnam are really cheap and interesting...

Thailand is great too but a lot more westernized...

It's a little too lite for someone who won't get to do many trips and hasn't seen much outside the USA. He should do the easy destinations of Thailand and Vietnam. Not really hardcore, lots of things to see but not as yawn as Singapore.

After re-reading the OP, I think the TS should go to Hawaii. Sure, it's a bit vanilla, but it meets all the criteria and will not be overwhelming to someone who has never traveled internationally. SE Asia is definitely third world, and that isn't for everyone.

+1 ... and Cambodia is not nearly as sketchy as Western tourism boards would lead you to believe. Altho' it can be if you'd like! mwink[1].gif

Ibiza.

Well I would copy and paste my recommendation of Kabul from a different forum on the basis the OP was brave enough to ask "these uncultured apes" where he should go on holiday, but this one is a bit more civilised.

I recommend Central Europe if you can afford it, Krakow is a wonderful city, Auschwitz is pretty important to world history, and you have the Tatra mountains right on your doorstep in southern Poland and Slovakia. Obviously they don't speak English as the main language but most people under 40 do speak it fluently.

Or Switzerland, go cycling and hiking in the Alps since pretty much everyone speaks English there, and there's bound to be some shops for your price range and also some for someone with a few billion more to spare to have a poke around.

Nice, Cannes, St Tropez and then Paris by train... not really cheap but very very nice (pun intended)

Two weeks? There?! It's known as SingaBore for a reason, ya know. wink.gif Two and 1/2 days at the most.

There have been many comments in favour of SE Asia, and I concur. Southeast Asia is a good value for money, and the same can be said for much of South Asia - Bhutan and the Maldives are expensive.

A week in Cambodia (Phnom Penh & Siem Reap) and then a week either in southern Thailand, or Burma, or Vietnam - or 4 days in northern Thailand and the remaining days in Laos. Two weeks in Indonesia isn't really enough; the country really deserves 4 - 6 at a minimum. In the subcontinent you'll only scratch the surface of India in two weeks, and it is a sensory overload - probably not the best first overseas visit as musicguy notes. Sri Lanka only needs a week. You could do Sri Lanka and blow a lot of cash for a week in the Maldives. September is a month too early for Nepal, but if it's late in the month the skies may have cleared. You could be one of the few who do Bhutan, which is an incredible place to visit.

If you're not interested in Asia I'd urge you to take a look at western Turkey and Bulgaria. Instanbul is a phenomenal city. Two weeks would be enough for Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.
